Role: BI Analyst Developer

Location: Blackburn, BB1 2FA

Job Type: Full time Permanent

Salary: Up to £45,000 Dependant on Experience

About the role:

We are seeking a talented Business Intelligence Analyst Developer to join our commercial finance team and support data-driven decision-making and business optimisation initiatives. Reporting to the Head of BI, this role will play a critical role in translating business requirements into actionable insights through data analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in business intelligence tools (specifically Power Bi), and a passion for driving business impact through data science

Key responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Visualisation:

  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive business performance and inform strategic decision-making
  • Develop interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualisations using BI tools such as Power BI to communicate insights to stakeholders
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and deep-dive investigations to answer business questions and address stakeholder needs

Business Requirements Gathering:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data and analytics needs, and translate requirements into technical specifications for BI solutions
  • Document and prioritise business requirements, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and data strategy
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization through data-driven insights

BI Solution Development and Testing:

  • Work closely with the Head of BI and IT teams to develop, implement, and test BI solutions, including data models, ETL processes, and reporting tools
  • Validate data accuracy and integrity, troubleshoot data issues, and ensure data quality standards are maintained
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide feedback to refine BI solutions and enhance user experience

Data Science and Predictive Analytics:

  • Collaborate with the business to develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms to forecast business outcomes and identify opportunities for optimisation
  • Apply statistical techniques and data mining algorithms to analyse large datasets and extract actionable insights
  • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in data science and apply best practices to drive innovation in BI and analytics

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, marketing, and IT, to understand business processes, requirements, and priorities
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively communicate insights and recommendations to drive business impact
  • Collaborate with the BI Data Manager and other team members to ensure alignment of BI initiatives with business goals and objectives

Essential:

  • Proven experience in business analysis, data analysis, and visualisation, using Power BI
  • Strong expertise in BI tools and technologies, with competence in SQL, Python, or R for data analysis and manipulation
  • Experience with statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and data mining techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

Good To Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field; advanced degree or certification in business analytics or data science is a plus
  • Experience in the retail or consumer goods industry, with exposure to the forecourt sector being advantageous
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure & Synapse Analytics
  • Understanding of PySpark
