Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Pay Range: $20 - $30 Hourly

Job Summary

The Warehouse Service Technician for Ingersoll Rand's Industrial Technologies and Services Division is a dynamic, hybrid role that encompasses both warehouse management and technical service functions. Based at the Chicago Customer Center, this position is responsible for maintaining optimal warehouse operations, including the check-in, servicing, testing, and repair of IR rental assets. As an integral part of the warehouse team, the technician ensures that all parts and supplies are organized and readily available for installation, maintenance, and repair activities. In addition to warehouse duties, this role involves providing technical assistance and hands-on work for the, start-up, installation, and repair of compressed air rental assets. The Warehouse Service Technician is expected to uphold the highest standards of safety, performing regular assessments and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations within the warehouse and at customer sites. The role is designed to bridge the gap between warehouse operations and field service needs. The technician will occasionally be required to visit customer sites to support the rental fleet's continuous operation, assist Field Service Technicians with complex repairs, and facilitate timely parts deliveries. This position requires a proactive approach to inventory management, including conducting audits and assisting in implementing inventory reduction strategies while maintaining service part availability. This role requires a versatile individual who can effectively communicate with a diverse team, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to the dynamic needs of Ingersoll Rand's customers and service operations. Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with customers, co-workers, and office staff, serving as technical support and fostering strong relationships.
  • Manages warehouse operations, coordinating with Service Coordinators to ensure all necessary parts and supplies are stocked and organized for preventative maintenance, repairs, and rental asset maintenance.
  • Provides technical assistance on rental equipment compressed air systems start-ups, installations, and repairs, with a focus on ensuring equipment operational consistency.
  • Maintains, services, tests, and repairs Ingersoll Rand rental assets at the customer center location.
  • follows standard operating procedures for warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, handling, and shipping goods.
  • Conducts thorough safety assessments of the warehouse working environments, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and conducting regular EHS assessments.
  • Reads and interprets wiring schematics and diagrams for all rental equipment and troubleshooting of rental assets in the field.
  • Documents service and warehouse activities comprehensively, completing work orders, maintenance checklists, EHS inspections and daily time sheets.
  • Assists with weekly inventory assignments, conducts regular inventory audits, and assists in implementing inventory reduction strategies while ensuring the availability of service parts.
  • Ensures proper operation of rental compressed air equipment at the customer location and in the field by completing preventative maintenance requirements and thorough inspections on a variety of compressors and air treatment components.
  • Participates actively in the maintaining of the Customer Centers Wearhouse, identifying solutions, suggesting improved methods and techniques, and recommending process improvements.
  • Acts as a liaison between the warehouse, field service technicians and office personnel to align inventory with service needs and assists Field Service Technicians with multi-technician repairs and parts deliveries when required.
  • Occasionally works at customer sites to maintain the rental fleet in operation and provides logistical support as needed through the delivery of parts and special tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • Desired applicants will possess a combination of warehouse management experience and a solid background in troubleshooting industrial/commercial mechanical systems, with a preference for those who have experience with compressed air systems and centrifugal technologies.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or logistics is required. Additional technical experience with servicing, testing, and repairing mechanical systems, particularly in the field of compressed air rental assets, is highly desirable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. A degree or certification in Electrical/Electronic Technology, HVAC, or a related field is preferred, with knowledge of AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams/schematics, motors/controls, PLCs, HVAC electricity, and controls. Military veterans with relevant technical and logistical experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants should have a valid driver's license for at least 12 months, with a clean driving record free of major traffic violations such as DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, or Reckless/Careless Driving in the last 5 years.
  • EPA 608 /F-GAS 303/2008/CE/ISHRAE Certification is preferred, with refrigeration experience or certification being a plus.
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and the ability to conduct inventory audits and implement inventory reduction strategies while ensuring the availability of service parts is essential.
  • The role requires physical fitness to perform regular safety assessments, warehouse duties, and occasional field service tasks, including lifting and moving items in line with the safety policy.

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage) with NFPA or equivalent standards.
  • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move weight limits in line with the safety policy.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

This position may require occasional travel for training. 1-2 times per year for one week at a time. (5-10%).

Key Competencies

  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and other basic computer usage. Working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad) and network bases.
  • Customer service skills such as conflict resolution, communication, negotiation, etc.
  • Maintain proper business travel practices in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Mechanical competency to be able to learn, diagnose, and troubleshoot compressor systems and machinery.
