We are looking for a Centre Lathe Turner to work on an immediate basis for our client who is a well-established company based in the St Helens, Merseyside area.
The Package and work pattern for the Centre Lathe Turner role:
* Salary: £16.00 - £17.00 per hour ( dependent on experience and qualifications)
* Hours: Approximately 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday days.
* Reduced hours considered over a 5-day working week, no less than 30 hours.
* 25 days’ holiday, plus bank holidays’
* On-site parking
* Location: St Helens, Merseyside area
* Permanent contract
Key Responsibilities for the Centre Lathe Turner role:
1. Manually machine (mill and turn 50/50 split) small batches of engineering parts, normally 1 or 2 offs.
2. Work on various materials including stainless steel.
3. Produce components such as counters, shafts, pins, new threads, or end of rolls.
4. Set and operate centre lathes, manual milling, and turning machines.
5. Read and interpret engineering drawings.
6. Use dimensional measuring equipment to measure machined parts.
7. Work unsupervised.
8. Follow company Health & Safety guidelines.
9. Work safely at all times, considering own actions and their impact on others.
Required Competencies for the Centre Lathe Turner role:
1. Ability to set and operate a centre lathe, manual milling, and turning machines.
2. Proficiency in reading engineering drawings.
3. Skill in using dimensional measuring equipment.
4. Ability to work unsupervised.
5. Strong adherence to Health & Safety guidelines.
6. Flexibility for occasional overtime.
Essential Qualifications for the Centre Lathe Turner role:
* Time served / served apprenticeship in relevant engineering / tool making discipline (ideal).
* Relevant qualifications in manual milling, manual turning, or manual machining.
* Experience in setting and operating centre lathes, manual milling, and turning machines.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
* Recent experience or proven track record with centre lathes, manual milling, and turning machines.
* Experience using a Colchester Lathe and XYZ manual milling machines.
* Experience working in a busy manufacturing environment.
Additional Requirements:
* Standard-level education.
* Punctual, conscientious, and keen with a practical approach to work.
