RTPI Cymru Planning Policy Assistant (Student Placement)
September 2025 - September 2026
Full time, 12 month fixed term contract
£21,840 per annum

RTPI Cymru has an opportunity for a student studying an RTPI accredited undergraduate planning course at Cardiff University as their placement year (September 2025 - September 2026).
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is the largest professional body for town planners in the UK and Europe and represents around 27,000 members in over 80 countries worldwide. RTPI Cymru has over 1300 members in Wales. The RTPI has been shaping planning policy and raising professional standards for over 100 years and is the only body in the UK to confer Chartered status to planners, the highest professional qualification. The RTPI champions the power of planning in creating prosperous places and vibrant communities, promoting healthy, inclusive, economically and environmentally sustainable places.
We are looking for a self-motivated, team player with great verbal and written communication skills who aspires to become a Chartered Planner and is interested in researching and promoting the RTPI's values, including healthy, inclusive, economically and environmentally sustainable places in Wales.
The role will work as part of the RTPI's team in Wales (RTPI Cymru), developing our policy responses and undertaking research into key planning policy and practice issues.
You will be given the opportunity to network with planners from different sectors and learn about their work and gain a good understanding of the work of planners and planning. There may also be the opportunity to support our work in Northern Ireland and work alongside teams across the UK and Ireland.
Whilst not an essential requirement, we would welcome applications from those able to communicate in Welsh.
You will be given supervision and support whilst with the RTPI to learn and develop before returning to continue your studies in planning.
