Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Glasgow
£42,000 - £55,000
Based in their Glasgow Office, an exciting opportunity has developed for a Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical) to join our client's dynamic and progressive organisation.
The preferred candidate will be expected to design and manage the application of primarily Mechanical Building Services to ensure they meet the client's requirements and that projects are delivered within budget and on programme.
Responsibility for the delivery of appropriate Mechanical designs.
The role reports to an Associate or Senior Associate.
The job holder is required to deputise for the Associate or Senior Associate/Director.
Role Responsibility
Work with the Associate Engineer and Client to develop a detailed brief of their mechanical and electrical building services requirements and produce a report which demonstrates clear understanding of the Client's needs.
Conduct an Options Appraisal and produce a report for the Senior Engineer and Client justifying the recommendations made to ensure client sign off of brief.
Assist Associate Engineers in managing a multidisciplinary project team from within to manage all internal aspects of the programme delivery.
Develop effective working relationships with the wider design team (Quantity Surveyor, Architects, Structural and Civil Engineers) to ensure the whole construction project delivers the client's needs.
Produce outline design, scheme design, and detailed design reports including drawings and specifications.
Manage the tender process to ensure the most appropriate contractors are selected to deliver the project on behalf of the client.
Assist in managing the commercial aspects of the project to ensure effective cost controls are in place and provide advice on project finances to other team members to ensure delivery within budget or any potential overspend is highlighted and agreed with the client.
Validate the commissioning process to ensure all products and services implemented meet the required specifications.
Advise on the operating and maintenance manuals produced by contractors to support the services installed.
Ensure the effective handover of the project from the contractor and ensure the final construction meets the agreed requirements and design intent.
Assist in conducting a review of H&S and risk assessments under the Construction Design and Management Regulations and sign off compliance with these regulations.
Maintain up to date industry knowledge of products and services to ensure the client always receives the best advice.
To deliver projects within clearly defined resources and timescales.
To work effectively under pressure.
The requirement to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (internal and external members) and to effectively influence other building and engineering disciplines.
Preferable Experience
Candidates will ideally be degree qualified and be working towards achieving their Chartered status.
A minimum of 5 years of experience including the use of REVIT and other relevant industry design software is required.
Individuals must have relevant experience within the Building Services Industry and experience working on healthcare projects is desirable.
