Managing Director – UK (Energy Storage Systems)


Location: This role is fully office-based at our UK Head Office in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 9HX


Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm (with flexibility for out of hours cover)


Experience Level: Due to the nature of the role, a high level of proven success in a similar role with storage systems within the renewable energy sector is required


Salary: Competitive with enhanced bonus scheme and company vehicle

Who Are We?

Since 2018 GivEnergy have quickly grown to be a leading manufacturer of electronic equipment designed to manage energy use and production. We specialise in our range of inverters and battery systems which allow our users to store their renewable/cheap-rate energy, ease pressure on the grid and save some serious money!


GivEnergy Europe was formed at the end of 2022, GivEnergy Australia was created in the summer of 2023, and we’ve just launched in South Africa this year with exciting further plans for global expansion in the works!


What You’ll Be Doing:

This role will focus on our domestic energy storage portfolio with responsibility for developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy to drive revenue and growth, expand market share and strengthen GivEnergy as a trusted brand in the battery industry.


Your role will involve developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, leading research and development efforts, implementing marketing and public relations strategies, and managing a diverse team across multiple functions. This role will ensure cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.


No two days will look the same in this role, but generally, you can expect a mix of the below accountabilities:


Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Develop and implement corporate and annual business plans, monitoring progress and ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team, staying informed about industry developments and ensuring compliance with regulations.


Sales and Market Leadership

  • Grow and lead a high-performance sales team, set sales targets, and provide clear direction and motivation to achieve sales goals.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive market entry strategy for the UK to maintain a strong presence and competitive advantage.
  • Establish strategies to grow customer base and enter new markets.


Market Research

  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify opportunities, customer needs, and emerging trends in the UK battery/energy storage systems market.
  • Drive research and development programs to keep the company at the forefront of the industry, delivering innovative products and services.


Client Acquisition

  • Identify and target key customers, distributors, and partners in the UK, with a strong emphasis on relationship-building and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with major customers, government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders.


Product Portfolio Management

  • Work closely with the product development and engineering teams to ensure the product portfolio meets the specific needs of the UK market.


Revenue Growth

  • Develop and implement pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, and sales initiatives to drive revenue growth and profitability.
  • Prepare and monitor the implementation of the annual budget, optimising revenue and minimising costs.
  • Develop and execute marketing and public relations strategies to promote the company's products, services, and image.


Contract Negotiation

  • Represent the company in negotiations with customers, distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, and government departments to secure favourable contract terms and establish mutually beneficial partnerships.


Credit Management & Receivables Oversight

  • Take responsibility for monitoring and managing the credit and receivables process. This includes conducting credit checks on customers, assessing doubtful receivables, and ensuring timely resolution of payment disputes.
  • Implement strategies to minimise bad debt and improve cash flow by actively managing credit terms and collections.


Reporting and Analysis

  • Monitor sales performance, analyse data, and prepare regular and annual reports for the board, identifying areas for improvement and growth.


Global Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with other global teams, including marketing, operations, and finance, to ensure alignment and support for sales objectives.


Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Identify and manage risks associated with manufacturing, supply chain logistics, and market dynamics.
  • Ensure all Company activities comply with relevant regulations and standards in the UK market including health and safety.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Full valid driving licence.
  • Proven track record of success in senior leadership roles within the energy storage or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK battery market.
  • Experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute market-leading sales strategies.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel internationally and stay away from home for extended periods as needed to support business development efforts (for example locations such as Europe, Australia, China etc.)
