CMA Ships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, covers all facets of the maritime business: from the fleet management of the vessels to that of the crew members. CMA Ships is also a team of experts responsible for implementing innovative solutions and making CMA CGM vessels more energy efficient.


YOUR ROLE

As maritime legal counsel of the Legal Department of CMA CGM Head Office, you will be in charge of handling major marine casualties and incidents, including groundings, fires, collisions, pollution incidents and investigations as well as a full range of marine claims. The position will also consist of providing support and advice to operational and commercial teams and protecting the Company against legal risks and violations. You will report to the maritime litigation manager within the maritime litigation department.


WHAT WILL YOU DO?
  1. Handle large scale marine casualties and incidents in coordination with P&I insurers and external legal counsels.
  2. Attend, manage and advise on multiple aspects of a marine casualty such as causation, claims, defenses, liabilities, jurisdiction, arrest, limitation of liability or mitigation.
  3. Handle complex General Average and/or salvage situations as well as large scale cargo claims.
  4. Provide legal advice and guidance to operation and line management within the organization.
  5. Handle the coverage of the claims and recovery from the P&I clubs and the insurers of the group.
  6. Offer guidance and identify loss prevention opportunities.
  7. Monitor the financial data of your files and report to management using the in-house IT systems.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

You have a master’s degree in Maritime Law with a minimum experience of +3/5 years of experience. A first experience in shipping or a related industrial sector would be appreciated. Working in an international and multicultural environment, you speak English fluently. You are autonomous, very rigorous, and have an analytical mind and a strong sense of initiative. You have negotiation skills and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
