The Manufacturing Engineering Manager should have a strong background in leading technical teams responsible for the production of complex electro-mechanical systems. As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you would be responsible for the development, deployment, and training of all supply chain production infrastructure, documentation, and tools for meeting/exceeding process metrics, targeted financial metrics, and company goals. You’ll identify manufacturing needs, define scope, and manage a medium-sized team of engineers and technicians who will report to you on progress for active projects.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities in the position can be classified into 5 categories:
- Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor and develop a diverse team of engineers across multiple sites in Europe (principally on our client’s site near Clermont-Ferrand), fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
- Identify skills gaps and implement employee development plans to foster a world-class engineering team capable of meeting future engineering and technology challenges.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to support team member’s career growth and development.
- Manage the budget for the Manufacturing Engineering team.
- Strategic Planning and Execution
- Collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute multi-year operational strategies that align with company objectives.
- Develop and implement long-term goals, KPIs and performance metrics to ensure the team’s contributions align with overall business goals.
- Drive process improvements and improve operational efficiency, ensuring scalability and sustainability.
- Operational Excellence
- Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring projects are completed on time.
- Implement engineering best practices in project management.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Support the production of products throughout the product lifecycle (non-exhaustive):
- Contribute to the design and definition of machines for production.
- Participate in supplier and parts qualification (cost reduction).
- Produce manufacturing and inspection files and keep them up to date.
- Define routines and instructions for mechanical and electrical integration, inspection, and testing for the shop floor.
- Define, create, and implement the tools used in manufacturing and inspection.
- Develop, improve, and deploy globally consistent manufacturing processes and tools working closely with your US counterpart.
- Train operators.
- Improve work methods.
- Legal and Regulatory
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (Safety, Environmental, Social).
- Set up the necessary procedures and ensure their application.
Education and Training
A Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or a commercial degree with a technical degree, or equivalent experience is required.
Very advanced or fluent English and very advanced or fluent French (written and oral)
Lean and/or Six Sigma and Project management experience.
Long-term relevant work experience.
At least one long-term experience involving management, managing a team of engineers or similar.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Experience working in an international organization, ability to work in matrix organizations.
- A strong affinity for product development, manufacturing and service processes related to the manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent presentational skills, with the ability to tailor the message to different types of audience.
- Action-oriented with the ability to work in a medium-large team as well as contribute individually for quick execution of projects.
- High-level training, coaching, and guidance skills for developing a team of 9 engineers, 2 of whom are experienced with others needing skills development and guidance.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of commitment to achieving desired results and to meeting deadlines.
- CAD/SolidWorks preferred.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
