Job Description

Job Summary:

In the role of Mid Linux Engineer, you'll be instrumental in standardizing, maintaining, and optimizing our Linux-based systems and infrastructure. Reporting to the manager of Teledyne's Data Systems team, you will have the opportunity to significantly influence our company's technology stack and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain Linux-based systems and services across a large, global landscape
  • Manage and optimize our Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, and other various Linux distributions
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to streamline system administration tasks
  • Ensure system security, performance, and reliability through proactive monitoring and maintenance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Linux systems with other platforms and services
  • Participate in capacity planning and system architecture discussions
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and provide technical support for Linux-related problems
  • Create and maintain standards and documentation for Linux systems, processes, and best practices
  • Interface with and support other IT teams and functions such as ERP and General Applications
  • Stay current with emerging Linux technologies and propose innovative solutions to complex technical challenges
Knowledge & Experience:

Required:
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration, with expertise in both RHEL and Ubuntu
  • Strong knowledge of Linux internals, file systems, and networking
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Perl)
  • Experience with configuration management tools, particularly Ansible and Salt Stack
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging solutions for Linux environments
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, VMware)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience interfacing with critical business systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication abilities to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable:
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification
  • Ubuntu Certified Professional certification
  • Experience with high-availability clustering and load balancing
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., NIST 800-171, CMMC, CIS)
  • Familiarity with database administration on Linux systems
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
