Job Title: Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (C&I)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness. a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role
Salary: From £55,000 dependent on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and manage the technical, functional, and system requirements, ensuring integration and change management
- Managing system and integral equipment design, working with other parties to meet essential design milestones such as design preparation for qualification testing.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks related to the PMS design and interfaces
- Managing the hardware design, including dependencies and interfaces with other systems and operators. Including attending demonstrations, test and trials of control system equipment and interfacing systems, supporting the design team and equipment manufacturer, shore side, on boat and during sea trials.
- Review contractors’ engineering plans and provide feedback, supporting development and qualification testing
- Support demonstrations, tests, and trials of control system equipment, liaising with contractors, customers, and manufacturers
- Provide support to the Joint Build Assurance (JBA) activities to support the wider submarine build
Your skills and experiences:
- Experience in electronic, C&I (EC&I), hardware, or software engineering, or equivalent experience from another discipline
- A strong understanding of complex system design and engineering principles
- In-depth knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and its processes
- Proven communication skills across multiple disciplines, teams, and suppliers
- A good understanding of cross-engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering
- An ability to produce and interpret technical documentation, and write structured reports and presentations

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a senior engineer to join submarine programme and be part of the team to support with the engineering assurance and governance, through reviewing, approving, and improving the design and implementation of the Platform Management System.
