The Role
We’re looking for a Project Manager to take charge of a major flood defence scheme based in Southend. This is a pivotal role where you’ll manage the planning, coordination, and execution of all site activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality benchmarks, and project deadlines.
Reporting to a visiting Contracts Manager and working closely with a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide leadership to site teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to exacting specifications. If you have a solid understanding of civil engineering processes and the ability to lead diverse teams, this is the perfect role to make an impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Project Planning and Delivery: Develop and manage project programmes, ensuring all phases are executed efficiently and within agreed timeframes.
* Site Leadership: Take ownership of site operations, managing teams and subcontractors to ensure optimal productivity and adherence to project specifications.
* Health and Safety Compliance: Champion site safety, ensuring all activities meet legal requirements and company health and safety protocols.
* Budget and Cost Control: Work closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor to manage budgets, control costs, and produce accurate financial reports.
* Quality Assurance: Conduct site inspections and ensure that all work meets project specifications and industry standards.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary site contact, maintaining open communication with clients, the Contracts Manager, and other stakeholders.
* Risk and Issue Management: Identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to prevent project delays or cost overruns.
* Resource Management: Oversee the allocation and management of labour, equipment, and materials, ensuring resource efficiency.
* Programme Adjustments: Monitor progress and adjust project schedules as required to meet deadlines.
* Problem-Solving: Address challenges on-site proactively, implementing practical solutions to maintain project momentum.
About You
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
* Proven Experience: Strong background in managing civil engineering or infrastructure projects, particularly those involving groundwork, drainage, reinforced concrete, piling, and utilities.
* Flood Defence Expertise: Prior experience working on flood defence or water management projects is advantageous but not essential.
* Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, ensuring seamless on-site operations.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methodologies, safety regulations, and quality standards in the civil engineering sector.
* Communication Skills: Clear and professional communicator, capable of managing stakeholder relationships effectively.
* Adaptability: A proactive, adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a skilled Project Manager to take the lead on a critical flood defence project with a forward-thinking and reputable employer. If you’re ready to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you
