Job Description
Teamforce Labour are currently seeking a General Foreman with strong experience in earthworks, drainage, communication ducts, and pavement construction, ideally in a highways environment on behalf of our client.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a key leadership role within a high-profile civil engineering project.
Role Overview:
As a General Foreman, you will oversee the execution of civil engineering works on site, ensuring that all tasks are carried out safely, within the project programme, and to the highest quality standards. You will manage a team of direct labour and specialist subcontractors, leading a variety of general civil engineering work packages. A strong background in civil engineering, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills, is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management: Direct and manage site operatives and subcontractors, ensuring safe, controlled, and efficient work processes.
Site Logistics & Planning: Oversee site logistics, manage plant and equipment, and ensure all machinery is in good working order and fit for purpose.
Safety & Compliance: Promote a culture of safety, conduct site inductions, monitor competencies, and ensure all health and safety protocols are followed.
Quality Control: Monitor work quality, ensuring adherence to specifications, implementing quality checks, and promoting a right-first-time culture.
Documentation & Reporting: Contribute to the creation of work package plans, risk assessments, and task briefing sheets. Keep accurate records of plant usage and compliance documents.
Project Progress: Contribute to weekly programme updates and monitor progress against key project dates in coordination with the project manager or site agent.
Resource Management: Allocate appropriate resources to each task, track performance, and work to improve efficiency across the team.
Material & Waste Management: Monitor material usage, minimize wastage, and implement actions to improve material management.
Skills & Experience:
Civil Engineering Expertise: Previous experience in general civil engineering, ideally within a highways or infrastructure environment.
Leadership Experience: Proven track record of successfully managing teams, plant, and resources on-site.
Strong Communicator: Ability to engage and communicate effectively with operatives, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Health & Safety Focused: Strong understanding of health, safety, and quality management on site.
Organized & Detail-Oriented: Ability to manage multiple workstreams, monitor quality, and keep accurate records.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience managing civil engineering projects, with a strong focus on earthworks, drainage, and pavement construction.
Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence (essential for travel between sites).
Certifications:
CSCS Card
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
TWS (Temporary Works Supervisor)
Other Qualifications (Desirable):
First Aider
Fire Marshall
Fit for Work Medical (or Safety Critical Medical)
