Job Description
An Alternative Provision in New Milton are seeking a Head of Mathematics to start on a permanent basis in January 2025.
The school caters for secondary age pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, ASD and challenging behaviour. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fantastic school, taking on leadership within the Maths department.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Head of Mathematics to lead our maths department. This role is crucial in shaping the mathematics curriculum and ensuring all students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of alternative education practices, a commitment to improving student outcomes, and the ability to inspire both students and staff.
Salary - Main scale to UPS depending on experience TLR 2a £3214
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of a coherent mathematics curriculum aligned with the needs of our students.
Cultivate an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and academic achievement.
Collaborate with teaching staff to develop innovative and effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning styles.
Monitor and assess student performance, using data to inform practice and drive improvements in teaching and learning.
Provide support, guidance, and professional development opportunities for mathematics teachers and support staff.
Engage with students, parents, and external stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to education and student well-being.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current educational practices in mathematics and alternative education settings.
Lead departmental meetings and training sessions, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Promote the importance of mathematics through extracurricular activities, workshops, and community engagement initiatives.
Qualifications:
A degree in Mathematics or a related subject.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a strong understanding of the UK education system.
Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in an alternative provision or similar educational setting.
Strong pedagogical knowledge and experience in developing engaging mathematics curricula.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to build rapport with students and colleagues.
A commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering educational environment.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform decision-making.
