Job Description
Keltbray Infrastructure Services Limited (KISL) is seeking an Environmental Manager to join our A66 project team.
This is a varied role, in a dynamic, fast paced environment to manage the company’s environmental compliance, risk reduction and improvement opportunities in areas including ecology, archaeology and heritage, resources, water, energy and embodied carbon.
The role requires leadership to engage our people to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of the business operations including supporting delivery of all areas the Sustainability Strategy as well as meeting project specific deliverables.
Primary duties
Lead on environmental requirements for allocated projects, ensuring compliance through:
- Understanding client, strategy and legislative requirements including carbon, biodiversity net gain and circular economy; identifying risks and opportunities; provide expert advice and drive the implementation.
- Produce project documentation required by the Client and internal procedures, adhering to the BMS and document control procedures. Identify improvements and help enact change
- Overseeing the compliance of live projects against the requirements of the ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management System and other relevant accreditations (e.g PAS2080)
- Subcontractor management, working with technical specialists to ensure that compliance is achieved and resourced in an efficient manner.
- Closely working with internal teams e.g. designers, construction, procurement to ensure requirements are met and commitments are upheld e.g. BREAAM, CEEQUAL, CCS
- Liaising with stakeholders and regulators to achieve successful outcomes for e.g. client, customer, communities and Keltbray
- Supporting the development and rollout of relevant training to improve knowledge
- Inputting to project level reporting to ensure common understanding of performance and progress
- Carrying out project environmental inspections/audits to monitor on site performance and guide teams in applying controls and mitigations.
- Supporting the implementation of the sustainability strategy and associated procedures, ensuring that they are fit for specific business needs and implementing changes where required.
Secondary duties
Responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Provide expert advice and wider environmental sustainability support across Infrastructure
- Seek out opportunities, be disruptive, inquisitive and challenging to bring in ideas and solutions
- Support Pre-construction teams with tendering and business development activity
- Attend and participate in industry groups and promote Keltbray achievements
- Provide technical input to audits and on occasion complete audits (with relevant training)
- Support the Lead Sustainability Manager with reporting and communications as required
- Complete event reports and investigations as required
Qualifications and Training
Essential:
- Relevant degree e.g. Environmental Science or Sustainability Management
- Member of a relevant professional body (ICE, IEMA, CIWM).
- Driving Licence
- Keltbray Manager & Supervisor Training
- Behavioural Safety Training incl TCUP
Desirable:
- CSCS / EUSR / PTS
- Mental Health First Aider
- Kelvin Top Set 1 day or equivalent investigation training
- Chartered or Full professional membership
- PETALS or similar
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in the industry, site experience and understanding of management systems
- Experience dealing with consents and discharge of conditions
- Environmental reporting, Ecology management, Pollution prevention and response, Water resource management and groundwater protection, Circular Economy and Waste Management, Heritage management, Carbon reduction
Desirable:
- Industrial knowledge across the infrastructure Services areas of Business
- Monitoring e.g. Site inspections and Audit experience
- Understanding of responsibilities when working on infrastructure projects as contractor
- Experience inputting to technical responses in work winning
- Experience of working on Development Consent Order projects
