We are currently recruiting for a remote Health and Safety Advisor to join our passionate QHSE Department.

This is a remote working position which offers exposure to various FM Sectors, sites, and industries, including education, healthcare, venues, and retail. The role offers continual professional development with CPD, working with the wider UK&I QHSE team with extensive experience and knowledge.

We are looking for someone that shares our passion in the field of occupational health and safety. Together with ensuring colleagues comply with necessary legislative requirements, we want someone that can help drive change. Someone that has the enthusiasm to help advise, guide, support, and coach operational colleagues around the business.


Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • To act as a trusted advisor to operational managers on health and safety issues, ensuring company standards and expectations are met.
  • To travel to various sites within the business to provide advice and guidance on health and safety matters.
  • To monitor and manage accidents and incidents on the company reporting system.
  • To attend necessary internal/customer meetings on behalf of the QHSE department.
  • Under guidance, provide advice on environmental and quality issues.
  • To undertake internal audits in-line with the internal audit plan.
  • To support other departments within the QHSE Team.
  • To communicate proactively on all necessary QHSE matters and as required, prepare reports, bulletins, and briefs to promote learning.
  • Travel to sites to assist with certain accident and incident investigations, helping the site and business learn and develop.
  • To react to emerging challenges and adapt as necessary.
  • To support delivery of QHSE strategic objectives and initiatives targeted at continual QHSE improvement.
  • To support the business to manage effectively QHSE matters and to be capable of taking appropriate and timely corrective action when required.
  • To liaise, as required, with any enforcement authority (e.g. HSE, EHO).
  • To build working relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  • To work collaboratively and constructively with other members of the QHSE Team to ensure a consistent and seamless delivery of QHSE support across the OCS business.

About You:

  • Applicant must have the right to work in the UK

Necessary

  • General secondary education with a high level of numeracy and literacy
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 12 months experience within the UK with practical application of health and safety standards and legislative requirements.
  • TECH IOSH status
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety compliance and statutory requirements.
  • Practical safety management and delivery experience.
  • Experience/knowledge in investigating significant events.
  • An basic understanding of civil claims and criminal enforcement.
  • An analytical approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Able to operate and communicate competently with any level of customer within both the internal and external client organisation.
  • The ability to demonstrate proactive customer relationship management and effective relationship building is essential.
  • Behaves in an ethical and sustainable way in all they do.
  • Full UK driver’s license.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals (or equivalent), or working towards.
  • History of working in relevant industry sectors e.g. hard services, cleaning, working at height, security, catering, logistics, grounds maintenance, cleansing, aviation and transport, facilities management.
  • Base knowledge and understanding of ISO9001, 14001, and 45001.
  • Experience of working with external auditors.
