We now focus on building the world’s most modern and efficient Gigafactory in Dunkirk (France). With this facility, our ambition is an initial annual production of 16 Gwh of lithium-ion batteries by 2025, thus powering 300,000 electric vehicles annually. In joining us, you will actively participate in this breathtaking industrial adventure to shape the future of European mobility. The Sr. mechanical cell design engineer will be the owner of the mechanical parts design and its product/process integration. Will drive the design from concept (pre-A) to D sample, validating and reviewing the design with relevant stakeholders stage by stage. Acts as mentor to fellow mechanical cell design engineers. Will lead parallel innovation projects unrelated to a customer project.Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop li-ion batteries for ESS or electric vehicle applications.
  • Plan, direct and follow up on project related testing and industrialization activities.
  • Identify and meet special customer requirements pertaining to Mechanical design.
  • Follow up with validation of mechanical components.
  • Lead design reviews internal and external within the confines of mechanical and cell structural analysis.
  • Interface with suppliers of mechanical parts for technical and quality discussions.
  • Ensure the integration of product design with process design.
  • Prepare mechanical drawings and models.
  • Lead the product lifecycle management of mechanical components.
  • Lead innovation and design for manufacturing projects.
Prerequisites:
  • Bachelors or master’s in mechanical, materials, or similar engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience preferably in module, electronics, or sheet metal industry or 4+ years in li-ion battery design.
  • Experience driving at least 1 project from A sample to SOP.
  • Ability to solve complex topics independently and with a team.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Strong skills in CAD and statistical approaches.
  • Design experience in relevant cell format.
  • Self-driven, able to follow up on tasks with no supervision.
  • Experience in cell manufacturing.
