JOB PURPOSE:
The Food Safety & Sanitation | Quality in Equipment Design Lead has overall responsibility to implement microbiology and food safety standardized programs for McCain Continental Europe, MAE, Lutosa & van Geloven; in the design and installation of manufacturing equipment, lines & plants. He/She brings solid expertise into the project team with Food Safety Eyes, including HACCP, microbiological risk assessments, hygienic zonings, environmental monitoring programs, allergen management, foreign material controls, hygienic equipment design, sanitation capabilities and Food safety & Quality Culture. He/She also ensures the Food safety programs meet not only McCain requirements, but also those of key customers and regulators.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Food safety programs: ensure the translation into comprehensive specifications of the requirements related to hygienic design (defined in the different standards (second and third parties), regulations). Assure the project team is trained in such Hygienic and Sanitation standards across the region.
- Risk assessments: perform and/or validate risk assessments of equipment-related topics like facilities, processes, equipment, flows, including changes coming from the change process.
- Food safety critical points: be part of the HACCP team, vocal on equipment-related food safety risks.
- Detection equipment: knowledgeable of best-in-class equipment available on the market, provide guidance in equipment selection, installation, and support in validation.
- Food safety regulatory requirements: ensure compliance with applicable Food safety regulatory requirements (EU, National, Local, including FSMA) by implementing the adaptations required, with Engineering and Plants FS&Q teams.
- Food Safety Standards: knowledgeable on Food safety requirements of the standards (BRC, IFS, AIB, SQMS, KEFSQ, etc.) and ensure compliance in collaboration with Engineering and Plants FS&Q teams.
- Sanitation programs: ensure sanitation requirements (drains, cleanability of equipment, floor, ceiling, etc.), water requirements (HP, temperature, quantity), cleaning equipment (CIP, mobile, design, quantity, etc.) are part of the equipment design and ensure that the installation is carried out in accordance with the specifications.
- Food safety performance: drive a “quality first” mindset within the project team and processes at the very earliest points; provide data and trend for tracking the food safety compliance of the projects.
- Food safety Incidents: monitor deviations & issues related to Food safety, provide expertise to assist with risk analysis and mitigation plan.
- Food safety culture: Champion a strong food safety culture across the organization.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Master’s degree in food science, microbiology or related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working within a food manufacturing organization with progressive roles in FS&Q.
- Experience with FSMA (including Preventive Controls, FSVP, Sanitary Transport, and Intentional Adulteration); HACCP/HARPC plan design, measurement, documentation, & training required.
- HACCP certification required. FSMA PCQI and GFSI (IFS, BRC, SQF or FSSC 22000) certifications preferred.
- Understands and can apply microbiological principles. In-depth foodborne pathogen knowledge.
- Knowledge of EU food laws, and U.S/Canadian regulations is a plus.
- Knowledge of Equipment design, sanitation, validation (Ex: EHEDG hygienic design).
- Knowledge in chemistry with specifics in sanitation applications.
- Experience in auditing and risk assessment (microbiology, allergens, foreign material, food fraud, ingredient, suppliers, deviation, etc.).
- Experience in root cause analysis (DMAIC; 5 Ws, 5Ms, etc.).
