Job Description Summary
The position holder reports to the PDG HVDC Leader. The position holder will lead and manage a global team of project engineering managers in the HVDC PDG. Own the HVDC project delivery within the scope of HVDC PDG and drive project engineering operations by working closely with regions and other engineering functional leaders of PDG HVDC. Drive consistent functional specifications defined in the reference solutions and common global processes for project implementation. The role allows modification of procedures and practices covering work if the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Lead Project Engineering Department to execute engineering scope under HVDC PDG:

  • Mobilization of engineering and project engineering resources timely to the projects by working with the engineering functional leaders of PDG HVDC.
  • Monitor PDG Project engineering KPIs and take appropriate actions to meet targets.
  • Work with other PDG engineering functional leaders to develop/improve processes.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing, training, performance review, and retention.
  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking to execute policy/strategy.
  • Serves as the technical leader/manager to develop a scope of work and provide technical leadership and interface with Proposal Management, Cost Estimating, Partners, Customers, GE Product Engineering, Sourcing, and Engineering sub-contractors.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead projects and tenders with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information and develops skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within the field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
  • To support business development, implement standards, improved project engineering practices and ensure that they are followed. Input to monitoring and control of project engineering activities, analyzing the data and taking actions to improve project execution.
  • Accountable for overall engineering delivery under PDG scope and drive the team to meet project deadlines and support timely decisions to meet project schedules.
  • Accountable for implementing change control for both internal and external changes during the project execution phase.
  • Work with Grid Solutions Integration (GSI) central team to place project processes and ensure project teams follow them globally.
  • Participate in project strategy elaboration with HVDC project delivery leader for project engineering management plan and engineering execution strategy.

Educational requirements and experience :

  • Engineering degree in Electrical or equivalent knowledge/experience with major experience in the energy sector for complex EPC projects, engineering disciplines, and significant experience in people supervision (subcontractors, sub teams etc).
  • Strong focus on developing technical and leadership competence in staff, ensuring comprehensive training and development plans are in place and enacted.
  • Take a proactive approach to ensuring Health & Safety is paramount, including conducting Risk Assessments where necessary.
  • At least 15 to 20 years of experience in a large international engineering projects environment, including proven experience in the successful management of complex tenders or projects of medium to large scale, including sound understanding of commercial management and contract terms.
  • Mastering of some engineering processes such as: Civil work, Plant configuration, control & protection hardware, System & performance studies, and AC substation design.
  • Successful experience in project technical management on large scale projects with complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of project execution risks and financial processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of HVDC Technology, market, and portfolio.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in an unstructured environment and deliver results.
  • Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making, influences & inspires team, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role.
  • Global experience and mindset including high technical cultural competence and sensitivity.
