Job Description
Job Title: Construction Manager (Longcross)
Department: Operations, Construction
Reports to: Head of Construction
Direct Reports: Assistant Construction Manager
Role Purpose
To support the Head of Construction in delivering data centres and supporting infrastructure across the company estate, ensuring live services and customer needs are met.
Key Responsibilities
The Construction Manager will oversee the design and construction of data centre offerings and associated infrastructure, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets and timelines. Key duties include:
Project Management
* Manage budgets and schedules for complex projects.
* Ensure site works meet design specifications and quality management standards.
* Develop and maintain detailed project plans, tracking progress and managing deliverables.
* Monitor project scope, change control, and escalate issues as needed.
* Provide consolidated reports to the Head of Construction, including milestones, risks, and costs.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Collaborate with clients, architects, designers, and contractors to deliver projects to agreed budgets and timelines.
* Lead project teams and manage coordination between partners and working groups.
* Ensure smooth communication across internal and external stakeholders.
Risk and Compliance
* Identify and manage technical and commercial risks associated with site works.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
Team Management
* Recruit, train, and manage project staff and consultants.
* Actively promote a high-performing team culture.
Technical Oversight
* Approve design specifications and ensure alignment with business needs.
* Define and manage system certification and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) programmes.
* Support user training and manage evaluation activities.
Experience, Skills, & Qualifications
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
* 10+ years’ experience in construction management (data centre experience is an advantage).
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Experience with project management software (Asta Powerproject preferred).
Core Competencies:
* Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Excellent communication and team management capabilities.
* Self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Additional Requirements:
* Willingness to develop knowledge of company standards and procedures.
* Ability to obtain Security Clearance (sponsorship provided).
