Job Description
The Met Office is looking for a Senior Service Designer to support our data delivery programme.
Day Rate £500 - £550 per day - 15 Month Contract.
We aim to get our world-class weather data in the hands of users who can use it to help people stay safe and thrive.
Met Office data is available through a range of internal and third-party systems, the Senior Service Designer will support in the mapping and designing of Met Office data services end-to-end.
The Senior Service Designer will be an experienced designer who works with minimal support and can influence and mentor others. This role will be embedded in a multidisciplinary team.
As a Senior Service Designer, you will be responsible for designing the end-to-end journey of the service for acquiring data from the Met Office.
The service should be designed to help users complete their goal of acquiring the data they need and deliver the Met Office’s goal of our data being used to create social value and economic benefits.
In this role, your work will involve the creation of, or change to, products, data, content, and transactions across digital channels provided by internal and external systems.
The role will form part of the Met Office dedicated User-Centred Design team, championing user-centred best practice within projects to help build a user focused culture.
As a Senior Service Designer, you will:
Work with Senior Product Managers, Programme Directors and project boards to develop design concepts.
Create ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ service blueprints for data services.
Design systems for use across multiple services.
Lead the design and implementation of the service strategy to ensure business requirements are being met.
Identify processes to measure and visualise outcomes and successes.
Gather and understand the needs of business stakeholders and effectively manage expectations.
Help set direction and embed good user-centred design practice within teams
Make important decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others.
Conduct and interpret evidence-based research and incorporate this into your work
Mentor other user-centred design colleagues.
Advocate user-centred design within the Met Office.
