Job Description
Structural Engineering Coordinator
Contract- 6 Months
Reading - Hybrid - 3 days per month onsite
This is a development role, whilst some prior knowledge of telecommunications is advantageous, you will be given the opportunity to understand the basics of telecommunications including the various technologies, network architectures, protocols, and build a basic knowledge of civil and structural engineering. You will be supported by a cross functional team of industry experts and exposed to other disciplines within the company for you to develop your skills and build a strong foundation of knowledge about the industry.
The roles primary focus will be supporting the structures team, with exciting opportunities to contribute to future initiatives which will drive efficiencies and could be transformational for how the business will operate.
You will be expected to use and become proficient with the various tools and systems which enable to structures team to perform their daily tasks.
You will be part of the Structures team and expected to collaborate and contribute to the teams' overall targets and goals including things such as: keeping up to speed with customer changes and requirements which is an ongoing process as new technologies advance and present exciting opportunities. We often work with operators to support workshops to support our suppliers in a fast-changing industry.
Design Audits, validation, and analysis of design output from suppliers are all areas the structures team are involved with, and this role is required to support and enable the structure experts to perform their tasks as efficiently as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
Shadow structures team to gain knowledge in various aspects of telecoms civil and structural engineering
Support with provision of calculations and design.
Undertaking site visits.
Support and assist with assessing design concessions
Support in the production and maintaining of guidance documents to ensure Customers and Suppliers are working to the same standards.
Locate and share important documentation between the structures team members to assist with site-by-site reviews.
Contribute innovative ideas and support the implementation of initiatives to enable the business to work smarter.
Provide administrative support to the structures team
To support and contribute actively to health and safety, environmental, business continuity and information security arrangements that meets our obligations to our customers
To assist in management of audit, review and report on the quality of output from principal designers to the structural engineering manager and HSQE.
To assist in all key stakeholders and stakeholder groups who are connected to the design function. This will range from answering site specific queries, presentation design solutions with Vodafone & Telefonica design stakeholders.
Skills required for this role:
Basic knowledge and understanding of the telecoms industry, e.g. who are the UK Mobile Network operators
1-3 years of experience in Structural Engineering
Degree relevant to Civil or Structural Engineering. The degree should be an accredited degree with the Engineering Council
Good IT skills, in particular the use of all Microsoft applications
Good communication skills.
Proactive attitude, with the ability to quickly react and adapt to changing requirements.
Capable of undertaking climbing and or rooftop, working at heights training.
Confront, respect, and discuss difficult situations to help develop and understand different personalities and perspective.
