The charity currently has a permanent position for an Accounts Officer/Finance Officer, to be primarily based at their main site in Rotherham, although the role can be worked on a Hybrid basis.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title: FINANCE/ACCOUNTS OFFICER
Hours of Work: 25-30 Hours per week
Responsible to: General Manager
Salary: £24,000-£28,000 pro rata per annum, depending on experience
About Thornberry Animal Sanctuary:
Thornberry Animal Sanctuary care for Dogs, Cats, Horses, Rabbits and more. Established in 1988 we are one of the largest animal rescue centres in South Yorkshire. We look after animals who are vulnerable and neglected and need care and love.
The charity has grown in recent years, and we are now looking to take further control of our finances through the employment of a finance officer. This is an exciting time to join the team and the role is a brand new one that will be pivotal in moving from recording financial information on excel, onto accounting software.
Job Purpose:
· To ensure the day to day administration and efficient management of the organisation’s finances and accounting systems, consistent with the requirements of the trustees.
· Ensuring income for the charity is maximised through gift aid monitoring and maintaining accounts receivable and payable.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare and regularly review annual budgets in conjunction with the Board of trustees.
· To input all financial data on Sage Business Cloud software, ensuring that authorisation and documentation are received from the appropriate members of staff, and filed accessibly.
· Preparing financial statements, maintaining cash controls, purchasing, maintaining accounts payable & receivables.
· Develop, implement, and maintain information systems to monitor Gift Aid and project activity.
· Submit and monitor all Gift Aid claims. Ensuring all data is held in accordance with GDPR legislation.
· Reconciliation of bank account on a weekly basis.
· Raising invoices and monitoring debtors.
· Reconciling donations from online platforms, standing orders and direct debits.
· Setting up payment runs in accordance with supplier’s terms.
· Administering and monitoring petty cash.
· Production of quarterly management accounts, including a variance analysis report to be sent to the trustees.
· Maintain donor database (Etapstry), ensuring all data is up to date and gift aid is being maximised.
· Prepare and maintain the asset register.
· Deal with all aspects of VAT accountability on a day to day basis.
· Assist with the review and maintenance of the insurance.
· Ensure the proper filing and archiving of invoices, contracts and other relevant documents.
· Assisting in the year end process, ensuring compliance with the charities SORP.
· Any other general finance administration to support the General Manager that may arise.
Whilst every effort has been made to outline all the main duties and tasks of the post, a document such as this does not permit every item to be specified in detail. The post holder may, from time to time, be asked to undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the grading of the post.
Person Competencies:
· At least 2 years working within a finance role.
· Experience of using accounting software (Sage One)
· Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
· Good knowledge of other Microsoft Office packages (Word, Powerpoint)
· Current knowledge of third sector reporting would be preferable.
· Highly organised with excellent financial administration skills including:
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work collaboratively as port of a team
- Able to work to deadlines
· Excellent communication skills; ability to clearly explain budgets and finance issues to a variety of audiences.
· Excellent organisational skills.
