Job Title: Engineering Design Lead

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Design Lead to drive the development of innovative sheet metal fabricated solutions. This role will focus on creating efficient, manufacturable products using advanced CAD techniques and design automation, while leading a team of engineers and designers. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that designs align with the company's high-quality standards, manufacturability goals, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the Design Process:

* Oversee the engineering design process for a variety of products, from initial concept to production-ready designs, ensuring all aspects of manufacturability, cost, and quality are considered.

* Utilize advanced CAD tools and design techniques to create adaptable, scalable models that meet functional specifications and align with project timelines.

* Direct the development of 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings, ensuring accuracy, compliance with our standards, and clear communication across the team.

CAD and Design Expertise:

* Leverage industry-leading CAD software (Ideally SolidWorks) to produce flexible, reusable models and detailed designs.

* Develop parametric models, templates, and design libraries to improve efficiency across projects, with a focus on ease of adaptation and scalability.

* Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for production, considering both cost and quality control.

Collaboration Across Departments:

* Partner with internal departments, including production, quality control, and sales, to ensure smooth product development and timely delivery of designs.

* Communicate design concepts clearly to external stakeholders, including suppliers, clients, and contractors, ensuring that design specifications are met throughout the production process.

* Lead design reviews and technical discussions to resolve any design issues or conflicts, making necessary adjustments as required.

Continuous Improvement:

* Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in engineering design and manufacturing technologies, incorporating new approaches and tools into the team’s workflow.

* Suggest and implement improvements to the design process, focusing on increasing efficiency, reducing lead times, and improving overall product quality.

* Monitor project milestones, track team performance, and ensure that all design deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.

Experience:

To be successful in this position a strong background in CAD-based product development and a focus on manufacturing and fabrication.

Expertise in CAD tools such as SolidWorks

Familiarity with design for sheet metal fabrication is essential for this position.

Skills:

In-depth knowledge of design principles and best practices, particularly for complex, large-scale fabrication projects.

Proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling, assembly design, and detailed technical drawings.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to optimize designs for both functionality and manufacturability.

Excellent communication skills, capable of liaising with both internal teams and external clients or suppliers.

Desirable Traits:

Strong leadership skills with a focus on team collaboration and mentorship.

Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.

Familiarity with fabrication processes, materials selection, and supply chain management.

A passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry advancements.
