We are looking to recruit a Senior Project Controller to join our Client's Project Controls Team in the nuclear space.
The Senior Project Controller is responsible for generating project controls outputs autonomously with very little supervision required from their Project Controls Manager. These outputs will be used as components to build the larger picture of project performance in support of project and portfolio management, customer, and business reporting requirements.The role is expected to produce advanced, high-quality outputs across all project controls sub-functions with very little supervision required from more senior project controls staff.
- The Senior Project Controller will be responsible for producing the complete project controls picture, implementing all sub-functions, for entire projects or programmes, managing and co-ordinating the outputs of junior project controllers where required.
- The successful candidate will be able to conduct advanced project controls techniques under minimal supervision and will be suitably experienced to guide and support junior project controllers in their duties.
- They will be producing their outputs to a high standard, using advanced techniques to drive deeper accuracy and realism to their work, actively identifying the causes of inaccuracies and variances and implementing solutions to resolve these each month.
- They will be capable of providing an integrated, holistic picture of project performance through interrelated cost, schedule, risk and documentation reporting.
- They will be comfortable challenging stakeholders of all levels of seniority to get accurate and reliable data, tenacious in identifying and resolving issues, and be able to think on their feet to generate new solutions to problems and implement these on their projects.
- An experienced person in this role will have a track record of delivering high-quality and advanced project controls outputs, across all sub-functions, for larger projects or a portfolio of medium sized projects.
- They will be comfortable doing this by managing and co-ordinating the inputs of various project controls staff members, integrating these into a master picture after assuring the quality and consistency.
- They will often be acting as a delegate to the Project Controls Manager and will be starting to contribute to the function and wider business outside of their area of responsibility.
- They may be cascaded some limited line management responsibilities by the Project Controls Manager for a small number of junior staff.
In accordance with the project drumbeat and quality standards, as well as bespoke client requirements, undertake standard project controls activities across all sub-disciplines, such as:
Key responsibilities will include:
Cost Control
- Periodically updated and validated EAC for relevant projects or programmes
- Project or programme-level cost reporting
Planning and Scheduling
- Periodically updated and validated schedule, including progress and forecast, for relevant projects or programmes.
- Schedule with an up-to-date baseline, managed through change control to maintain contractual alignment.
- Schedule reports and extracts including resource analysis.
- Assure schedule quality for junior project controllers.
RAID Management
- New risks and full risk register updates
- Periodically updated RAID items and actions
- Project or programme level RAID reports
- Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis
Document Control
- Non-technical documentation reviews
- Document deliveries, receivals, and internal distribution
- Status reports, documentation registers and transmittals logs
The above will be undertaken autonomously with very little supervision required from the Project Controls Manager. This role will not hold line management responsibilities but will be expected to coach and guide junior staff, assuring and integrating their outputs into the complete reporting picture for entire projects or programmes.
Senior Project Controllers would be expected to already hold the following (or demonstrate capability to the level of):
- APM Associate Membership
- APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ)
- Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Specialist
- Primavera P6 Fundamentals
- APMG Project Planning and Controls- Practitioner
- APM Project Risk Level 1
- APMG Earned Value Foundation
And would be expected to gain the following within 2 years:
- APM Project Risk Level 2
- APMG Earned Value Management Practitioner
