Job Description
Job Purpose
EGL2 is a 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical 'superhighway' cable link to be built between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and Drax in North Yorkshire, England. The project is being jointly developed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT) and our client. The construction phase of the project is due to commence in July 2025, with intrusive surveys beginning October 2024. This role will be based within or clients team who are managing the southern onshore sections of the works (convertor station construction and associated wider works at Drax in North Yorkshire and 69km of onshore cables which are to be installed along a route arising from Fraisthorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire and ending at the Drax convertor station site). The role will begin in December 2024, ending December 2029 and comprises working on-site Monday to Friday ensuring the environmental compliance of the survey & construction phases of the above works. The role will report into our clients Construction Environment Advisor and the Project Management team. The main duties of the role will be to complete environmental inspections of the works, checking and maintaining environmental compliance along all aspects of the works, implementing corrective actions and reporting any finding and trends to the Construction Environmental Advisor and Project Management team.
Accountabilities
Ensure the implementation of, and compliance with, the provisions of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and the mitigation contained within the project Environmental Statements (ES).
Ensure compliance with any licensing or other conditions imposed on the project.
Provide onsite proactive, specialist guidance and advice regarding environmental controls, constraints and laws specific to the project. Including a focus on site water management.
Review RAMS, oversee works and recommend actions as appropriate, including temporarily stopping works where non-compliant working is observed,
Undertake regular project inspections, audits and checks on site against applicable regulatory requirements, planning conditions and associated documents (e.g., CEMP). Investigate all environmental non-conformances and record, communicate and monitor the completion of any identified actions.
Identify any trends within the project's environmental performance and feed these back to the Construction Environment Advisor and wider project team.
Provide specialist input into incident investigation reviews and ensure all resulting actions are implemented across the relevant areas of the project.
Work closely with other disciplines on the project e.g., ecologists, archaeologists and engineers to assist in the project delivery.
Be a visible advocate for the project SHESQ culture and play a key part in the project's success.
Knowledge, Experience and Technical
Experience of monitoring construction projects environmental performance and experience of managing environmental compliance and constraints on construction sites.
Experience of auditing and communicating audit findings.
Experience of managing water impacts on construction projects and knowledge of the legal requirements of working near watercourses and water bodies.
Good broad knowledge of environmental laws which may be relevant to the project, e.g., waste, oil storage etc.
Good knowledge and experience of a variety of environmental controls and mitigations used on construction projects.
Good knowledge and experience of environmental and sustainability managements systems, such as ISO 14001, ISO50001, ISO20400, BS8001
Experience of influencing staff at all levels and being able to communicate this both written and verbally.
The need to be well organised, pro-active, reliable and willingness to travel across the project, five days a week.
Essential
Degree or Diploma in Environmental discipline or other relevant qualification·
A full valid UK driving licence.

Member of CIEEM, IEMA or equivalent
