Research engineer in Bioimage Analysis.
Job Location
Job Description
Permanent Pasteur position in a core facility, deadline to apply: 15th May 2024.
The Image Analysis Hub (IAH) of the Institut Pasteur is looking to recruit a research engineer in biological image analysis, contributing to the development of image processing pipelines and computational infrastructure for (cryo-) electron microscopy (EM) and photonic imaging.
About the Image Analysis HubThe Image Analysis Hub (IAH) is an open access, equal access core facility committed to offering support in image analysis for the Institut Pasteur campus. The engineers of the IAH collaborate with users of the campus and beyond, helping them on their projects with bioimage analysis. The projects range from the development of a custom analysis pipeline, of a special analysis tool, to a full collaboration where you will perform the analysis from start to end and deliver scientific results. We connect to the imaging cores of the campus and work with them on innovative methods for Biology.
MissionThe IAH wishes to expand the scope of its activities and support research projects that are based on electron microscopy images. The mission associated with this position consists of:
- The development of image pre-processing pipelines and computational infrastructure to harness data generated in cryo electron microscopy, performing e.g. CTF correction, denoising, filtering, multi-modal correlation, and tomography reconstruction. For this, the engineer will work in close collaboration with senior engineers in the IAH and beyond.
- Offering image analysis services to the campus, for imaging modalities involving EM image data and fluorescence microscopy image data.
The engineer will have the possibility to travel to acquire specific expertise, depending on the mission progress and requirements.
ProfileThe suitable candidate:
- holds an engineering or master’s degree in (bio)informatics, (bio)physics, applied mathematics, or any other related domain, followed by at least 3 years of professional experience in bioimage analysis in research or support to research activity,
- or holds a PhD in bioinformatics, (bio)physics, applied mathematics, or any other related domain.
Required skills:
- Strong experience with image processing, data visualization, and scientific software development.
- Good knowledge of relevant Image Analysis techniques.
- Good programming skills (most relevant are Python, Java, C/C++).
- The will and taste to collaborate with others on their projects.
- Team player with good communication skills and a sense of accountability.
Desired skills:
- Experience with biological imaging is a plus, in particular with EM.
- Experience in cryo-EM and cryo tomography data analysis is a plus as well.
- Experience with workflow management tools.
The working language in the IAH is English.
