Position Summary:
The Vice President and General Manager (VPGM) will be responsible for the team of professionals in the business and will partner closely with Discovery’s other business leaders and commercial leaders to align efforts to implement the company’s overall growth strategies. This is a business-critical leadership role with full P&L responsibility for Discovery’s Preclinical business.
Position Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years in senior leadership roles within biopharma, diagnostic, or life science industries.
- Must have deep knowledge and experience in the in vitro ADME/Toxicology industry.
- Demonstrated experience in being responsible for the strategic thinking and planning of a business segment/organization.
- Advanced business acumen with working understanding of financials and investments behind execution of client acquisition, selling, and geographical expansion plans.
- Strong financial acumen required with demonstrated experience managing a full P&L. Must have experience with managing budges and external resources.
- Must be willing to work at our sites the Boston, MA area (Woburn, MA or Malden, MA).
- Must be fluent in English
Key Responsibilities:
Executive Oversight & Business Strategy
- Provide executive oversight for operations, organizing people and activities to achieve business unit goals.
- Develop and implement strategies for Preclinical product and service growth, leading cross-functional teams across operations, sales & marketing, development, production, and product management.
- Formulate operational strategies that align with the company’s objectives and growth targets.
Financial Management
- Take full ownership of the P&L for the operations division, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget, adjusting as needed to maintain financial health.
- Partner with Finance to develop forecasts and make data-driven decisions based on financial reports and trends.
Revenue Growth & Business Development
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansions to drive revenue growth.
- Engage with key clients to support current business and explore future opportunities.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Promote employee engagement and retention through leadership and professional development initiatives.
Operational Excellence
- Optimize processes and systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance productivity.
- Address and resolve operational challenges, including supply chain disruptions and customer concerns.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure high-quality product and service delivery.
- Monitor KPIs and metrics to track performance and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Develop mitigation strategies to address potential business risks.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Lead by example in engaging existing and target customers through in-person interactions.
- Actively support U.S. and global sales, marketing, and public relations initiatives.
Collaboration & Technology
- Collaborate with internal and external partners on R&D-driven projects and technology adoption.
- Participate in the evaluation and validation of emerging technologies to support business innovation.

- Onsite in one of our two locations in the Boston, MA area (Malden, MA or Woburn, MA; will consider candidates willing to relocate)
- Flexible work schedule
