Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Analytical Scientist to play a key role in supporting the development of cutting-edge drug delivery systems, including:

  • Microspheres for sustained release
  • Nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery
  • Lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting both routine and advanced analytical testing, using your expertise to develop and execute assays that characterize various formulations, including particle size, API content, encapsulation efficiency, nucleic acid quantitation and integrity, as well as in vitro release and dissolution.

You’ll leverage a variety of analytical methodologies, such as HPLC, Capillary Electrophoresis, Gel Electrophoresis, ELISA, and fluorescent microplate-based assays to generate critical data that will drive the development and optimization of innovative drug delivery platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical characterization of drug delivery systems using techniques such as:
  • Assays (API and lipid quantitation)
  • Particle size analysis
  • Dissolution and/or in vitro release testing
  • Residual moisture measurement
  • Osmolality testing
  • Syringeability and injectability assessments
  • Analyze and interpret technical data for accuracy and precision.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory documentation and contribute to writing SOPs, analytical methods, drug release and stability protocols, and technical reports.
  • Train junior staff and interns in the use of analytical instruments (e.g., pH meters, balances) and techniques.
  • Ensure all laboratory instrumentation is properly maintained, and assist with lab upkeep, including cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop analytical methods for the characterization of drug substances and products (e.g., assay, dissolution, related compounds, residual solvents).
  • Participate in method validation and tech transfer activities.
  • Troubleshoot analytical challenges related to instrumentation, chemical methods, and experimental protocols.
  • Adhere to environmental health and safety regulations and company SOPs to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Support multiple projects concurrently, helping project teams achieve their objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field with 3-5 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical analytical laboratory.
  • Proven ability to execute analytical assays and effectively summarize results.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with scientists and engineers across disciplines.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative setting.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard office hours (9:00 AM - 5:30 PM) when necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with fluorescent microplate-based assays (e.g., RiboGreen, Picogreen), chromatography, spectroscopy, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instruments such as HPLC, UPLC, UV/VIS, multimode microplate readers, dissolution apparatus, and particle size analyzers.
  • Expertise in method development for early-stage drug development.
  • Prior experience working in a CDMO environment.
  • Experience with method transfer activities.
