Position Summary
Job Designation
The Senior CNC Programmer is responsible for managing and leading CNC programming, editing, and setting up all types of reductive type numerical controlled machines.
Job Core Responsibilities
1. Responsible for programming CNC lathes; 3, 4, and 5 axis horizontal and vertical mills.
- Is fully competent with ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and Tolerancing including comprehensive blueprint interpretation of customers part quality intent.
- Experience with airfoil GD&T and datum alignment via complex surfaces
- Writes instructions and technical specifications for production machinist's use in setup, total productive maintenance, basic trouble shooting, and best machining practices.
- Is fluent with mathematical calculations to convert from part origin to feature based origins for programming CNC's to ensure all part quality requirements on the drawing are met.
- Writes development programs and modifies existing released production programs for root cause and corrective action as well as increased efficiency while meeting AS9100 software control requirements.
- Selects spindle speeds, table or machine head feeds, cutting tool types, and cutting tool coatings for programs that are optimal for cutting all mold tooling metals and carbon composite materials.
- Identifies and implements improvements to set up (alignment, part setup, fixturing, part probing) to reduce time.
- Experience with probe programming using Renishaw probes. Experience with macros of all fixture and part features to enable feature manipulation.
- Experience with adaptive machining on composite parts with complex contours.
- Collaborates and participates in all PDR and CDR machined part designs from engineering to validate their functions and ensure their success in increasing efficiency.
3. Defines and develops best practices for; taking measurements on fixtures; detecting machine system malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and re-programming controls, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
4. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards for commissioning new fixtures and machines.
• Develop fixture design and processes for production of parts.
• Troubleshoot NC Programs to ensure continuity of product flow
Job Specifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other related discipline preferred, community college or vocational machining and programming educational program, e.g. equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will enable successful performance of job responsibilities and expectations.
Field of Study/Area of Experience:
10+ years of experience in Master CAM version 9 or later, Surfcam 2023 for 2 through 5 axis machining. Preferred to have NX total machining programming software experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• Numerical control programming 3, 4, and 5 axis mills, CNC lathes, B and/or C axis rotary table and/or indexing part fixture CNC machining experience.
• Aerospace Industry preferred
• 10+ plus years' experience running 3, 4, and 5 axis mills
• 10+ plus years of direct experience programming high speed aluminum, mold tooling metals, forgings and castings. 5 + years machining carbon composites via router trim and/ or grinding to achieve surface finishes specified on the customer drawings.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and preferred to have experience with model based definition customer data sets.
• Extensive experience with conventional machining equipment is required
• Experience in an aerospace component manufacturing environment is required
• Experience in cutting tooling alloys and aerospace materials, e.g., Titanium, Stainless steels and aluminum
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Must be familiar with CAD software. Use of Solidworks and NX is a preferred.
Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: \$69k-\$110k
