The Assistant Director serves as a liaison among local and regional PK-12 school administrators, teachers, university faculty members, and EPP students. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the role of compliance required by PDE for students and alumni to apply for Teacher Certification.Description of DutiesProvides leadership and coordinates field and clinical experiences for the college and EPP programs based on PDE and university requirements and expectations (accreditations, program review and approval).Represents the Teacher Education EPP’s on- and off-campus to a variety of constituents, including students, faculty, teachers, administrators, and other community agencies and stakeholders.Plans, coordinates, and executes student teacher workshop experiences that reflect field needs and prepare student teachers for the experience.Plans, arranges, and executes cooperating teacher education, including workshops, faculty meeting visits, and individual training sessions.Provides Education Unit placement direction for student teacher assignments and university supervisors for student teachers.Coordinates student teacher placements in the field with special attention 1) to ensuring a point of contact on-campus, 2) to providing the field with anticipated procedures and consistent expectations, and 3) to ensuring field experiences augment and enrich student learning.Works individually with students who are interested in pursuing student teaching placements outside of the geographic designation; establishes placement sites; leads special application processes and assists in obtaining agency agreements.Works with university supervisors and school district teachers and administration to insure a successful learning experience.Works with university supervisors and the Educator Preparation Program Deans and Department Chairs when necessary to resolve conflicts and establish remediation plans.Supervises the assigned clerical support.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws; Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Provides problem solving and ongoing communication with the Education Unit and University administration regarding field experience issues and complaints.Works with university legal counsel when necessary.Provides ongoing leadership while clinical and field placements are taking place and works with EPP professors, Department Chairs and Deans when necessary to solve concerns and positively influence student learning.Provides direction in forums related to teacher education, including the PK-16 Advisory Council and the Teacher Education Advisory Council.Manages the teacher certification process at CU, including student education, PDE Gate matriculation, PDE TIMS verification, and verification forms/letters.Co-Manages the EPP’s required regulatory clearance policy, including student education, clearance verification, and mediation for clearance issues.Articulates and represents the EPP’s policy decisions in the Student Teaching and Early Field Experience Handbooks as per PDE and University policy and procedures.Manages the Field Experience and Cooperating Teacher In-Service budgets.Identifies needs related to Educator Preparation Program Workforce Development needs in the service region and beyond and works collaboratively to meet those needs.Maintains the ETS Roster of Attending Students for the EPP’s and college.Maintains and works with assigned teams to support the OTPCPC assessment processes in the CU and external data systems (e.g. USDOE Title II, CPAST, PDE, CAEP) and to produce deadline specific reporting and compliance.Performs related duties as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean for the college.Decision MakingExercise sound judgement in decision making and making effective decisions related to areas of responsibility in a timely and responsive manner. For example:Manage several projects simultaneously to meet deadlines in a timely manner.Sort, organize and disseminate information to Dean and other stakeholder groups.Carry out duties in a team-oriented environment, working collaboratively with the College, University, and external agencies and accreditors as appropriate.Analyze data used in completion of surveys and for external reporting requirements.Coordinate special projects through planning, design, implementation, and analysis stages.Present data and information to others internally and externally through strong written and oral communications.Represents the office on committees, attends professional meetings, and provides consultative services as needed.Make presentations and provides training and education to the campus and outside community including for stakeholder meetings and feedback for continuous assessment and EPP improvements.Performs other duties as assigned.Fiscal ResponsibilityAssist of the Dean of the college and the Director of OTPCPC in generating, monitoring, projecting, and evaluation of programming budgets.Oversee financial remuneration to PK-12 school cooperating teachers.Oversee the department budget for the OTPCPC.Supervisory ResponsibilitySupervise and effectively manage the activities and responsibilities of administrative assistants and work study students through assignments, review, and monitoring of work.Minimum Requirements ProfileCompleted master’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited higher education institution;OR5 years related successful experience and/or education and valid teaching certification in a PK-12 area/level.Preferred QualificationsSuccessful PK-12 teaching experience.One year of related management and supervisory experience.Experience with supervision and evaluation of student teachers and/or teachers.Background as a cooperating teacher and/or manager.Experience in Educator Preparation initial and advanced programs in an accredited institution of higher education.Experience with or experience in a PK-12 environment with diverse populations.Knowledge of and experience with leading in technology systems in a data informed academic environment with accountability to regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements.A record of successful relationships with PK-12 districts and school and community stakeholders.Applicant Rating CriteriaKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesEffective communication skills, verbal and written.Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituent groups including students, University departments, staff, and faculty; visual, auditory, and speaking skills.Ability to use software application programs such as word processing, excel, spreadsheets, e-mail, and effective use of phone, keyboard, and other office equipment.Student development and student learning theories as they pertain to higher education.Fiduciary responsibilities and budgeting.Issues currently affecting higher education including accountability, state and federal regulations, FERPA rulings, ADA and disability requirements, human resources regulations, strategic planning, long range planning, and quality assessment.Project management from initiation to final analysis.Human resources management.Adherence to and knowledge of College and University policies and procedures.Essential Functions1.
