We are looking for a Satellite & Ground Segment Engineer focused on the Sentinel-2 mission. You will be involved in activities required to ensure the proper orchestration of operations across the services contributing to CSC operations, monitoring the associated overall operations performance - from planned instrument observations and satellite downlink activities to user-level data availability at the data access interface. The position is framed within the Serco Copernicus Services, unit responsible for supporting all Copernicus Sentinels missions in erogating operations, maintenance and coordination services. Main Responsibilities Operations Performance Monitoring of the ground segment data flow: End-to-end monitoring, analysis, and reporting to ensure that CSC Services behaviour aligns with expected outcomes. Monitoring the overall data flow to ensure completeness and timeliness for data acquisition, production, dissemination, and archival. Identifying deviations from expected performance and reporting findings. Operations Coordination and Support: Planning, tracking, and managing tasks and activities to coordinate CSC services and Data Processors maintainers involved in specific Sentinel-3 mission operations. Interface Management among different CSC operational Services, ensuring smooth communication. Managing operations documentation, configuration management, and website content updates for the Sentinel-3 mission. Action tracker management. Management of Copernicus End Users Helpdesk Requests. Anomaly and Maintenance Management: Processing and managing anomaly and maintenance reports. Coordinating with involved entities and following up until resolution. Using ticketing systems for issue management. Customer Interface: acting as the primary point of contact for the client, ensuring smooth communication and alignment between the client’s expectations and the services provided by CSC. Support to DEV Team: Supporting the DEV team for monitoring and reporting requirements (dashboards). Reports Preparation: Preparing reports on a weekly and quarterly basis. Meeting Attendance: Attending and organizing meetings such as progress meetings, Anomaly Review Boards (ARB) and coordination boards, ensuring alignment with decision-making processes. On-Call: Participating in on-call shifts during Extended Working Hours (EWH). Successful Candidate Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or a related field Expertise in performance monitoring and reporting: Ability to track, analyze, and report mission performance trends, ensuring data completeness, timeliness, and accuracy across complex systems. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and respond to complex mission data. Proven experience in coordinating operations involving multiple services, entities, and stakeholders. Experience in planning, scheduling, and tracking operational tasks across a distributed team. Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage complex workflows and ensure seamless collaboration between involved teams. Experience with Atlassian tools, including Jira for action management, issue and anomaly processing and tracking and Confluence for documentation and know-how sharing. Writing Technical Documentation, like operational procedures, anomaly reports, progress reports. English Level B2 (Upper-Intermediate), written and spoken. Knowledge of Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission and ground segment end-to-end data flow. Experience in monitoring and reporting mission performance trends, data analysis, and the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets and technical documentation. Experience in incident and anomaly management processes and workflows within mission-critical environments. Other Skills: Experience with Grafana for monitoring, including using dashboards and leveraging various features for performance monitoring. Familiarity with OData, STAC APIs and with SQL databases. Experience working on aerospace projects, ideally involving Earth Observation (EO) systems or satellite missions. Strong communication and mediation skills. Ability to work independently and manage tasks prioritizing responsibilities, to effectively meet deadlines and operational demands.
