Microwave Engineer (Contract)
(Job location: Nashua-Hudson, New Hampshire area)
Position Overview:
Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of microwave systems and components used in radar, communication, and electronic warfare systems for defense and aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities:
*Microwave System Design: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative microwave system architectures for defense and aerospace applications. This includes defining system requirements, conducting feasibility studies, and designing system-level specifications.
*Component Development: Design, analyze, and optimize microwave components such as amplifiers, filters, mixers, oscillators, and antennas. Utilize simulation tools and testing techniques to ensure component performance meets or exceeds specified requirements.
*Microwave Circuit Design: Develop microwave circuits using various technologies, including microstrip, stripline, waveguide, and integrated circuits.
*Design, simulate, and validate circuits using electromagnetic simulation tools, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to industry standards.
*Testing and Characterization: Plan and execute laboratory tests to verify the performance of microwave systems and components.
*Use specialized equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and power meters to measure and analyze microwave signals, including power, frequency response, noise figure, and linearity.
*Prototyping and Integration: Build and test prototype microwave systems and subsystems, integrating components into larger systems and conducting performance evaluations.
*Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure proper packaging and thermal management of microwave modules.
*Performance Analysis and Optimization: Analyze system and component performance data, identify potential issues, and propose design modifications or improvements. Optimize microwave systems for enhanced performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
*Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports. Maintain accurate records of design changes, test results, and project milestones.
*Communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
*Bachelor's or Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Microwave Engineering, or a related field.
*Strong understanding of microwave theory, electromagnetic wave propagation, and transmission line theory.
*Proficiency in microwave circuit design and simulation tools such as Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS), Ansys HFSS, or CST Microwave Studio.
*Experience with microwave measurement equipment and techniques, including vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and power meters.
*Familiarity with microwave component technologies such as GaN, GaAs, MMICs, and LTCC.
*Knowledge of defense and aerospace industry standards and regulations.
*Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
*Strong communication and documentation skills.
*Prior experience in defense or aerospace industries is highly desirable.
