Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Geotechnical Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.
Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.
Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.
These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.
As an Geotechnical Engineer, you will play an important part in undertaking the production of geotechnical designs, working as part of a dedicated Ground Engineering design team.
You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the planning and execution of desk studies and ground investigations
- Undertaking surveys and site supervision duties
- Assisting in the development of outline and detailed designs, supporting a wider multidisciplinary team and assisting in the implementation of innovative design solutions
- Preparing design calculations, drawings, technical documents, and project reports ensuring compliance with current standards
- Carrying out inspection work, feasibility studies, report preparation, cost estimating
- Assisting with project planning, programming, cost control and administration
- Assisting in the management and monitoring of the budget for projects
- Responding to queries and liaise with clients, third parties and other stakeholder groups
- Supporting the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts, when required

We want to hear from you if you have:
- BSc, BEng, MEng, or MSc in a geotechnical/geological science (or Civil Engineering + Geotechnics) or equivalent
- Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite
- Knowledge of geotechnical software
- A proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines
- Good communication skills with the ability to communicate with clients and stakeholders

Hours of work are: 40 hours per week.
