Project Engineer


Role: Electrical Project Engineer (Design and Delivery of HV Substation projects)

Position Type: Permanent / Hybrid

Location: North Scotland

Salary: up to £70,000 with an outstanding range of benefits and a work vehicle


Turner Lovell are recruiting for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer who will work with a vibrant, agile, and multi-functional team in delivering HV substation projects.

Our client is an established M&E contractor, operating across Europe on various HV energy infrastructure & data-centre projects, in both the design and construction phases.


Role overview:

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will provide lead technical support on projects from initial enquiry through to completion. You'll work primarily on M&E installations while being part of the transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering team, with opportunities to work on electrical installations up to 400kV.


Key Responsibilities

  • Modify and prepare design drawings for High & Low voltage equipment
  • Coordinate with design teams and contractors on technical matters
  • Create installation drawings and O&M manuals
  • Manage procurement and document control
  • Prepare method statements and risk assessments
  • Oversee sub-contractor work and quality control
  • Develop project schedules and manage material requirements
  • Conduct technical calculations (lighting design, cable sizing)
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • Commission installed systems
  • Prepare technical documentation and manage contract variations


Required Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering design/project management experience
  • Strong understanding of HV and MV network requirements, with particular emphasis on resilience and studies requirements
  • Experience with energy management systems
  • Proven project delivery track record
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
