Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW The individual appointed to this position will report directly to the Site Manager of Health, Safety, Environment, and Radiation. The Site Environmental Lead will work closely with the Saskatoon-based Environment and Compliance Management departments as well as internal stakeholders across the Project Development, Exploration, and Integrated Management System (IMS) teams. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of the site environmental management system, and providing oversight and direction to employees and contractors to ensure site activities aligns with NexGen’s environmental standards and regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of environmental excellence. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to) Lead the management and implementation of environmental protection and monitoring programs to support lifecycle Project planning. Leading and supporting site environmental protection, waste management, and monitoring activities including internal written correspondence, virtual and in-person meetings and technical workshops. Leading internal engagement activities to foster NexGen’s culture of environmental excellence, including collaborating with various departments to ensure environmental protection measures are understood and implemented (e.g., internal audits). Leading and coordinating activities associated with environmental management at site. Provide leadership and mentorship to members of the site-based Environmental team. Leading and coordinating activities of various environmental contractors and consultants in support of Project advancement and regulatory compliance, as required. Provide oversight and support to maintain regulatory compliance with applicable environmental legislation, ensuring work is performed and documented in a manner that addresses provincial and federal requirements. Work collaboratively with the Project Development team on the development and implementation of the Project-specific environmental plans, procedures, work instructions, guides and forms. Participate in meetings with Indigenous groups, local communities, government agencies, and regulators to facilitate and support permitting and environmental management processes. Work closely with the Project Development, Licensing, and Engagement teams, providing input and supporting interface points with environmental management activities. Manage scope, schedule, and budget for areas of accountability. Ongoing identification of risks to design, schedule, and critical paths to successful environmental management and identification of risk mitigation activities. Provide recommendations and guidance for implementing environmental strategies, goals, and objectives. Review environmental incidents and provide oversight in developing and implementing corrective actions. Compile and track information related to environmental key performance to drive continual improvement. Stay well informed of environmental legislation and initiatives and participate as necessary on working groups and associations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in uranium mining and/or milling Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly those relating to uranium mining and milling . Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems and management plans. Experience with supervising environmental teams is preferred. Experience working on project in remote locations and/or in sensitive environmental areas. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a challenging environment. LOCATION This position will be based out of the Rook I camp office with a two week in/two week out schedule.
