FinOps Consultant (Azure)

Position : FinOps Consultant (Azure) Location: Hybrid, Toronto Job Type: Contract We are a dynamic and fast-growing company in the payments and fintech industry, committed to revolutionizing the financial landscape through cutting-edge technology solutions. As part of our continued expansion, we are looking for a Cloud FinOps Lead to help build and scale our FinOps practice from the ground up, driving cloud cost optimization, governance, and financial accountability across our Azure cloud environment. Role Overview: As the Cloud FinOps Lead , you will be responsible for establishing and managing our FinOps function, ensuring the efficient and effective use of our cloud resources. You will collaborate with both the finance and engineering teams to optimize cloud spending, create financial transparency, and develop cost-saving strategies, while also setting up processes for ongoing cloud financial management. This is a strategic role that requires a deep understanding of cloud economics, Azure cost management, and financial principles to ensure cloud investments align with business objectives. Key Responsibilities: Build and Lead the FinOps Practice: Develop the FinOps framework, processes, and best practices to manage and optimize cloud costs from the ground up. Cloud Cost Management: Establish cost monitoring, reporting, and optimization strategies within our Azure environment. Financial Analysis: Perform detailed cost analyses and provide insights to leadership on cost drivers, financial trends, and opportunities for optimization. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, finance, and product teams to ensure cloud resources are used efficiently and align with business goals. Cost Optimization: Identify and drive initiatives that reduce cloud spend without compromising on performance, security, or scalability. Governance and Reporting: Set up cloud governance policies, implement cost allocation and tagging strategies, and create real-time dashboards to monitor cloud spend. Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with cloud financial planning, including forecasting usage, setting budgets, and tracking variances. Vendor Management: Liaise with cloud vendors to negotiate pricing, discounts, and review cloud spend. Tooling and Automation: Implement and manage FinOps tools and automation to streamline processes for cost management and reporting. Training and Evangelism: Educate and enable internal teams on FinOps principles, cloud financial management, and cost-saving techniques. Required Skills & Qualifications: 5 years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, or cloud cost optimization roles, preferably within the payments, fintech, or financial services industry. Strong financial background with deep understanding of financial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation. Proven expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud platform, specifically with Azure cost management and billing tools. FinOps Certification or equivalent knowledge of FinOps principles, cloud cost governance, and optimization strategies. Experience building FinOps practices from scratch or leading FinOps teams in scaling organizations. Familiarity with cloud governance and security frameworks to ensure compliance and cost efficiency. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, cloud usage metrics, and cost trends. Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across finance, engineering, and executive leadership. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hypergrowth environment with a passion for driving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with FinTech or payments industry. Proficiency in FinOps tools and platforms , such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, or Azure Cost Management. Familiarity with other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) is a plus.
