About the role We have an immediate opening for a Reliability Specialist, at our Lake Erie Works facility in Nanticoke, Ontario, Canada. Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the 1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts. Responsibilities Administer the company safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the Operating facility; Promote safety by various means (safety contacts, safety tours, incident investigations and follow-up, MSDS and JSA review, equipment condition, etc.) and leads by example; Ensure adherence to all environmental control procedures and relevant codes and standards; Apply technical principles and problem solving techniques to evaluate and resolve equipment conditions to maximize operating efficiencies; Use technical knowledge and maintenance history of mechanical equipment through a CMMS system to develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs; Examine failed or problematic equipment to understand the root cause of the issue and recommend alternatives to improve performance and reliability. Complete mechanical engineering design work as required to develop new equipment/processes or provide guidance to Maintenance employees carrying out repairs (welding procedures, repair sequences etc). Perform administrative activities such as completing maintenance and Root Cause Failure Analysis reports, conducting safety conversations, and compiling other reporting as necessary by the operating facility; Monitor the performance of existing preventive and predictive maintenance systems and revise to ensure the effectiveness of those systems. Identifies critical spares and works with the Materials Management group to ensure sufficient inventory levels are maintained. Identifies and coordinates reliability training for division personnel. Establish performance goals and objectives with the Area Manager Maintenance and the Division Manager. Job Qualifications College Diploma/University Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology; 3-5 years Steel or Heavy Industrial related maintenance experience; Strong working knowledge of preventive, predictive and non-destructive examination techniques. Professional Engineering license is an asset. Job Skills and Knowledge Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering and maintenance practices and required skills; Strong oral and written communication skills; Good interpersonal and leadership skills; Good problem solving and data analysis skills; Ability and desire to work in a shop floor environment – this is a very ‘hands-on’ position; Strong computer skills; An enthusiastic approach and ability to learn quickly and assume responsibility; As a manager/supervisor of the company, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to manage change, communicate effectively, and lead high-performance teams.
