Job Description

This position will have a January 1, 2025, start date Purpose of Role The Purchaser is responsible for the procurement and inventory management goals of predetermined commodities within an ERP environment. The Purchaser will demonstrate a solid understanding of key business areas affecting the Supply Chain, knowledge of commodity markets and manufacturing processes, and how their work impacts cross functional groups. Key Duties and Responsibiliti es To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Responsible for developing and implementing the sourcing strategy across a variety of component categories including but not limited to mechanical components, electrical components, wire harnesses, machined parts, valves, motors, metal, plastics, etc. Establish and maintains effective supplier partnerships, drive strategy that ensures supplier quality, delivery, lead time, and cost performance goals. Ability to conduct global sourcing projects related to the assigned product portfolio. Can evaluate and audit new suppliers, analyses and evaluate quotations submitted by potential suppliers to assure that the quality, quantity, delivery terms and cost are acceptable. Conduct contract negotiations. Develop and implement sourcing strategy for both domestic NA and international sources. Accountable for timely and effective planning, development and execution to meet project timelines and cost saving goals. Identifies, researches and implements new material and processes to drive cost down efforts. Recognized as an expert with a deep understanding and knowledge of market drivers and manufacturing techniques over a span of different material types. Conducts competitor and industry analysis to identify cost, material selection, manufacturing techniques and materials sourcing to improve the company’s competitive position. Maintain inventory availability while minimizing working capital investment. Maintain accurate product information, purchasing, pricing and cost data in SAP. Evaluate part usage patterns to make decisions to control inventory. Conduct ABC analysis. Work with the appropriate departments to ensure that selected vendors have the ability to meet quality and delivery requirements. Effectively respond to complex material purchasing issues and or project and demonstrates a high-level assurance in decision making. Collaboratively work in an international team environment; contribute ideas and alternate approaches when issues or conflicts arise. Take co-operative measures to meet shared company goals to reduce costs, improve on time delivery and improve quality. Analyses proposals, tender, negotiate conditions and manage contracts, records and supplier performance. Improve supply chain co-ordination and integration within the organization. Travel to the USA or international destinations 5-6 times per year is expected. Valid passport and ability to travel is required. Adhere to the company’s Quality Assurance System and Health and Safety policies. Other duties as assigned by management. Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Competen cies Education and Experience: Minimum 5 years purchasing experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with experience in sourcing internationally (NA, EU and Asia). Bachelor’s degree in a technical or other business discipline or equivalent education combined with relevant job experience is required. Strong technical understanding of Engineering drawings is required. Language Skills: Fluent in English (reading, writing, spoken) is required; basic knowledge of French an asset. Ability to Reason: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Proficient user of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook is required. Experience using MRP systems such as SAP is an asset. Math skills: Basic skills: ability to compute rate, ratio, statistical analysis, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Other: Familiarity with JIT systems, Kanban and LEAN is an asset. Proven experience in major contract negotiation and administration is required. Valid passport and ability to travel to USA and international destinations. Personal Character Teamwork: Balances team and individual responsibilities.
