About the opportunity: The Process Control Specialist serves as a member of the Maintenance Team and is accountable for industrial automation within the plant including all programmable logic controls, servo drives, AC drives, operator interfaces, SCADA and plant management software and all plant process networks along with the Instrumentation Supervisor. Work priorities are based on incoming malfunction reports, capital plan and maintenance department improvement activities. Depending on the site the position may be is responsible for maintaining the condition based preventive maintenance program, evaluating budgets, planning resources, evaluating & designing technical systems, and performing direct supervision of hourly maintenance personnel & contractors. The position works closely with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Sanitation and Plant Management to ensure all Process Control is effective and well maintained. The attributes we are looking for: Institute and enforce a rigorous change management protocol for Process Control systems to the established plant policies and procedures. Lead the development of new applications or the development of major changes to existing applications (e.g. Develop a Condition Based Maintenance system in SAP PM utilizing Instrumentation, Control and Data Management capabilities in the plant). This involves writing, managing and executing work related to assigned RFA’s (request for appropriations); writing code from specific documentation, developing and maintaining the documentation controls to track and manage all modifications to the plant’s control systems; and maintaining regular open communication regarding the status of projects to all stakeholders through the established project management process. Depending on the site may assist the project manager in building project schedules & coordinating activities with the plant for major capital projects. Provide technical on-call support to Plant operation when required. Depending on the site may supervise assigned trades staff including Tradesmen, Technicians, and contractors by providing technical guidance and assistance, assigning work, and identifying and addressing training needs by evaluating technical competencies. Participate in the coordination and scheduling of planned work during Plant shut down that is indirectly or directly related to the Plant control systems. Manage and maintain all licenses such as firmware revisions by ensuring they are current and compatible with the plant’s control systems. Responsible for coordinating the completion of all regulatory inspections for Maintenance including Instrumentation calibration. Responsible for developing & maintaining Plant PLC and SCADA system infrastructure. Provide Process Control specifications for hardware and software equipment following the Parmalat Controls and Automation Standard. Resolve plant technical issues and implement process improvements by performing weak-point analyses on systems and conducting root cause analysis on failures of equipment to ensure the plant control systems maintains integrity. Provide expertise in identifying appropriate actions required to maintain electrical procedures and ensuring adequate training required to meet legislative requirements. What you will bring: Electrical (or Automation) Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist diploma Five (5) years related experience in the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation fields Experience with DCS (distributed control systems) based systems Knowledge of all Electrical and Instrumentation standards and Electrical Safety code. Understand the Process Control in different areas of the Plant. Proficient in industrial communication network technologies such as Modus TCP/IP, Devicenet, Controlnet, Profibus, HART.
