Senior Construction Estimator

We are currently searching for an ambitious Senior Construction Estimator for our client located in Kitchener, Ontario. Our ideal candidate will enjoy working on a collaborative construction team to prepare estimates for a variety of civil infrastructure projects including road reconstruction, site servicing, earthworks, residential subdivisions, sewer and watermain, etc. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare bid submission documents, including bid deposits, proposal letters, conceptual plans and schedules, and tender forms Perform or delegate project takeoffs utilizing different software programs (Bluebeam, Excel, Agtek, etc.) Solicitation of prices from Subcontractors/Suppliers using Heavy Bid automated system Develop site designs, prepare and submit design and price proposals for Design-Build Projects Develop and maintain estimating tools and ensure that tools are being used appropriately Prepare estimates for sewer and watermain projects, residential subdivisions, road construction, paving, underground infrastructure renewal, parking lots, building excavation Develop detailed estimates using Heavy Bid and adjust standard default bid items and activities when required for best accuracy, crew makeup, productions, risks associated with each task and overall risk Analyze/compile data from past projects that can influence costs/efficiencies of future projects Train and mentor junior estimators by reviewing their estimates and take-off assignments Conduct peer review of estimates prepared by other team members Perform site visits and attend pre-construction meetings Develop strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers Accountable for projects, tasks and timelines that are assigned Review drawings/specifications, proactively analyze risks and develop solutions Promptly escalate all issues, questions, and concerns relating to tender challenges Coordinate with the operations team for decisions regarding the sequence of operations, site constraints, crew sizes, productivity factors, and project schedule Review requirements for bonding and insurance and secure pricing and commitments for same as required QUALIFICATIONS: Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, etc. 5 years of estimating experience with expertise in Civil and Underground Services Strong interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written Experience with estimating systems Heavy Bid / Bid2Win Excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills Advanced computer skills; previous experience with HeavyBid and Bluebeam is an asset Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety Attention to detail
