Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Reporting to the Sr. Project Manager, the Project Manager has overall responsibility for the management of all assigned customer projects, including scheduling of resources, management of scope and deliverables as well as the financial reporting of the project results. This position requires collaboration with the functional managers of the execution teams. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures that projects under his/her responsibility are delivered on time, on budget and to the technical terms agreed in the contract. Takes full ownership of the project execution phases, ensuring all project milestones are met. Escalates in writing any hazards to the project outcome in a timely manner including a recovery plan as agreed with the team members. Ensures that any deviations from the project objectives that cannot be recovered are properly reported and approved at the agreed authority levels. Follows methodically the PM process, ensuring that all Project Management procedures are properly followed by his/her team during the execution of a project. Ensures all changes to the scope of the project are properly documented and executed as required. Takes direct responsibility for the risk analysis / risk management process for each project, ensuring that past experiences (positive and negative) are considered. Co-ordinates with the Aftermarket Team the installation, commissioning and production support ensuring compliance with contract terms. Responsible for the specification and selection of all OEM suppliers for her/his projects. Ensures all purchase orders for OEM equipment are supported by specifications reflecting the scope of the customer’s order. Ensures that all OEM purchases comply with all related Mpac PM processes. Ensures a proper FAT and SAT protocols are agreed with all OEM suppliers. Completing requisitions through ERP system as required. Ensures there is a coordinated negotiation strategy with Purchasing for all project’s OEM suppliers. Preparation and coordination of validation protocols leading up to customer Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of equipment. Development of project test plans that can include but not be limited to: Safety / Risk Assessment, Functionality Testing, Cycle Testing, and Induced Failure Testing. Facilitation of Internal FAT activities. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED University degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Mechatronics) At least 4 years of experience as a Mechanical, Electrical, Controls or Mechatronics engineer At least 3 years of experience as a technical project manager in custom built machinery projects or similar Good level of computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel) a must A PMP designation - active or not - would be considered an asset Experience with Microsoft Project or similar – a must Good understanding of Project Management methodologies (PMP, PRINCE2 etc) Experience in Industrial Automation, Manufacturing or Packaging industries Good communication skills verbal and written Must be able to manage multiple projects of various size and complexity Programming design exposure (PLC, Robotics and Servo Technology) – nice to have Experience with manufacturing & machinery assembly processes – a must FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Works with the customer and Finance department to ensure that the payment schedule is respected by the customer. Project budgets must not exceed the contingency allowances for each project. Approval to project changes (scope, delivery, and budget) must be done in compliance with the company’s Delegation of Authority document (DOA). Discrepancies between budget and contractual terms that could affect the financial outcome of the project (or increase its level of risk) must be clarified and corrective action must be approved in compliance with the DOA. INTERACTION WITH CUSTOMERS: Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with the customer while protecting Mpac’s interests throughout the duration of the project. Represents the company in all meetings with customers in order to solve project related issues. Travels to customer’s sites when necessary. This position requires the employee to attend work properly groomed and dressed according to the position (casual dressing with some formal dressing required occasionally) All interaction with customers (especially agreements) must be properly documented in writing and shared with the appropriate managers for feedback.
