About the Role Axiom Builders is looking to bring on a General Manager, Labour to oversee the growth of our 450 labour workforce. Reporting to our Senior Vice President, the General Manager, Labour will work with our field and operational leaders to map out a 3-year strategy to optimize this value chain opportunity within the organization, from first evaluating the efficiency of our current workforce to eventually growing our labour workforce to create new partnerships in our value chain. This is a brand new role with our organization – and the successful candidate is one that is excited about building something new and leaving a business-transforming impact. Business Operations Manage our internal labour company’s financial performance by working with executive leadership to set and achieve revenue targets, controlling costs, optimizing profitability and identifying risk Build strong, unwavering relationships and buy-in with our field staff, starting with Field Operations, Superintendents and other site leaders to drive efficiency with their labour needs and forecast and ensuring cost controls are in place Foster the collaboration and open communication across all divisions and sites, ensuring alignment and consistency in a large-scaled workforce Lead and foster a culture of safety amongst hourly workers, working with Director of Safety on the delivery of safety education and training Evaluate and maintain our use of labour subcontractors, staffing agencies and their service agreements to achieve efficiencies Analyze market conditions, competitor activities and industry advancements Establish an organized and effective recruitment strategy for hourly workers, leveraging the HR team as needed Stay up to date and proactive with hourly wage trends and market compensation, with the support of the HR team as needed People and Culture Demonstrate our organization’s values and culture of excellence, commitment, and quality with our hourly employees and provide leadership and mentorship to them Enable the growth and development of our hourly employees within the organization, working with Operational Excellence and Learning & Development teams What you Bring The ideal candidate for the General Manager, Labour role is an experienced construction leader with business and financial acumen and interest. Having spent much of your time on construction sites, you understand the importance of cost, schedules and efficiency, and you appreciate the role each person plays to delivering a top quality product to our customer. You take a balanced approach to establishing systems and process, understanding the need for it, while striving for simplicity, scalability and long-term partnerships. People would describe you as self-managed and curious, leaving no stone unturned to identify opportunities to enhance the organization. You are highly organized and keen to know the details. Skills and Experience Over 10 years of construction experience with large focus of time spent in an operational or site-based position Advanced communicator with the ability to cater communication styles to the audience (workforce, superintendents, and senior leadership) Strong interest in business and financials Detail oriented and highly organized with ability to manage information in a complex environment Familiar with high-volume recruiting and human resources will be considered an asset Your Rewards We’re committed to the success and development of our people and recognize that they are the drivers behind our success. The base salary range for this senior role may be $150,000 to $175,000, depending on experience, plus a competitive performance-based bonus program, based on several labour metrics.
