About: Position: Senior Instrument and Controls Engineer Location: Vancouver, Canada Duration: Approximately 2 years (initial 12-month contract) Start Date: As soon as possible Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, with flexibility based on project needs Our client, one of the worlds largest natural resource companies, is looking for an experienced Senior Instrument and Controls Engineer to oversee and manage instrumentation and control systems for various capital projects. The role involves guiding engineering teams and contractors through all stages of project execution, focusing on detailed engineering, compliance with standards, and project optimization. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that designs and installations align with project specifications and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical oversight and direction to engineering contractors on instrumentation and controls design, focusing on system optimization and project compliance. Interpret P&ID drawings, and review and validate loop diagrams, schematics, and field instrumentation documents to support project execution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contractors to identify and resolve technical issues while maintaining project timelines. Use technical expertise to adapt and select engineering solutions during project implementation phases. Conduct risk assessments, including PHA/HAZOP, and contribute to ongoing safety and compliance initiatives. Monitor project progress and key performance metrics, preparing detailed reports to communicate status and outcomes to stakeholders. Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Professional Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, ideally in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) or client-based projects. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Smart-Plant Instrumentation, broad knowledge of field instruments, and understanding of process control systems (e.g., Delta V). Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Certifications: Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or equivalent certification. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities to effectively engage with diverse audiences. Team Collaboration: Proven experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams. Preferred Qualifications: Experience within the mineral processing industry. Advanced degree in Electrical or Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Familiarity with international industry standards and codes (ASME, API, ISO, IEC, ISA). Additional Requirements: The role is based locally, and candidates should be prepared for occasional site visits as needed by the project. Personal protective equipment will be required for specific tasks, including hard hats, safety glasses, and other protective gear in line with safety regulations.
