We hope you join us About the Role Safety is a Core Value of Stelco, and the individual will make Safety the 1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts. This role will include leading projects and tasks that contribute to the facility’s compliance with environmental regulations, and continuous improvement in environmental performance. This position reports to the Manager - Environmental Affairs at Hamilton . Responsibilities Prepare reports and submissions - as required by federal/provincial/municipal environmental requirements, and Stelco internal plant reports as may be required. Work with and provide support to plant staff to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Assist with on-going implementation of Stelco’s Environmental Management System. Prepare and submit environmental compliance approval applications. Develop and implement source reduction and environmental control solutions to improve performance and meet new requirements. Manage and direct contracted service companies working on environmental projects. Support the Environmental Manager, in liaising with government officials such as the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and municipal government, from time to time. Practice the requirements of the Stelco safety program to ensure a safe work environment. Provide support to the Manager – Environmental Affairs, as required. As part of the team, provide 24-hour on-call response to manage environmental incidents. Qualifications Honours degree or diploma in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field 2 years of experience in the environmental and/or consulting industry is preferred Familiarity with current, relevant environmental regulations Previous work experience in the manufacturing sector is an asset A valid G or G2 Ontario Drivers License is required Job Skills and Knowledge Strong written and oral communication skills Good problem-solving, computer and organizational skills Ability to multitask and prioritize requirements Strong ability to work independently as well as in a team setting Good communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret environmental legislation with respect to effects on Stelco's operations Fast learner with a strong ability to understand and retain new information Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team environment Your Work Environment Fast-paced manufacturing environment for a high impact team The job is within a heavy industrial setting, and you will be required to work within various areas of the facility to complete responsibilities Safety is our highest priority, and safety procedures and guidelines must always be adhered to.
