PURPOSE OF ROLE Project ManagerThe Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the successful management and execution of engineering-based projects within the bounds of quality, schedule and budgetary constraints. They will provide regular project status information and manage a multi-skilled team through the project life cycle. The PM will be required to co-ordinate and drive across all the functional areas within the organisation to ensure the successful on time delivery of all project milestones. Ownership of system design, development and engineering of mechanical, electrical and electronic aspects of projects. This includes taking responsibility for preparation of design specifications and project documentation such as test specifications and technical reports, necessary to meet the time, specification and budget requirements of the project. The role involves all facets of project management with direct liaison to customers and third party organisations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITESJob specific responsibilities
  • Planning and managing of project resource budgets and monitoring of project cash flow
  • Development and maintenance of project management plans and schedules
  • Working with Bid Teams to produce tender responses ? Issue and risk management
  • Stakeholder liaison and customer relations management providing a central point of contact
  • Project Team leadership ? Project configuration and quality control ? Project monitoring and reporting
  • To work with the management team colleagues to continuously improve project management processes in accordance with group policy
  • To be responsible for technical delivery of projects.
  • Ownership of technical requirements and responsibility for abstraction of derived requirements as necessary
  • To ensure that the design is safe and compliant to current legislation.
  • To take responsibility for project change meetings and review boards.
  • To be responsible for the technical input for tender documents, including costs
  • To be responsible for specifications, reports and plans.
  • To oversee design of sub-systems ? To be responsible for technical trials and testing.
  • To be responsible for feasibility studies and engineering assessments.
  • To lead technical liaison with customers, suppliers and internal departments, including support aspects, standards and quality to ensure that information is shared
  • To approve drawings against specified requirements.
  • To understand the security aspects pertaining to projects.
GENERAL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion.
  • Travel to other Exsel group sites and occasional overseas travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions & meet UK government security vetting criteria.
HEALTH & SAFETY
  • Adhere to all relevant Health and safety procedures and observe safe working practices. All work to be conducted in a safe manner.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to be used when required.
  • All tools and equipment are to be cleared away at the end of a task and work area cleared up before the end of working day.
  • All hand tools (if used) are to be maintained in a safe useable condition.
  • To advise advanced Technician, team leader or line manager of any Health & Safety issues promptly.
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS
  • Proven background in Project Management
  • Experience of managing multiple high-value projects
  • Experience of engaging with customers in a pressured environment
  • Excellent communications and inter-personal skills
  • Results oriented with a drive to succeed and achieve targets
  • Sound judgement and decision making ability
  • Creative problem solver
  • Formal accredited qualification in project management (e.g. APM, PRINCE2)
  • Skill in preparing technical and management reports and presentations for customers and suppliers
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage delivery of projects
  • Computer literate; Microsoft Office and Project are essential
  • Excellent personal and team organisational skills with the ability to work with people at all levels
  • Proven engineering experience is essential in a heavily regulated industry.
  • A relevant degree or suitable HND in an engineering discipline (or demonstrable experience in lieu of training).
  • The job holder will require a valid driving licence.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure. ? Attention to detail.
KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of use and applications of CAD and computer-based modelling is desirable.
  • Previous experience of aircraft and/or vehicle systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UK MOD organisation & process is desirable.
