Job Description
Our client, Windfall Mining Group, is currently looking for a Senior Controller. Reporting to the Senior Finance Director, the Senior Controller is responsible for ensuring internal control and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance for the company's assets in accordance with SEC requirements and the company's SOX policy. The Senior Internal Controller will work on a 5/2 schedule in a hybrid mode, combining telework and office work in Montreal. Duties and Responsibilities: Management of the SOX Compliance Program for the Company in Canada: Ensure compliance with the company's SOX and SEC requirements regarding Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and Internal Controls over Sustainability Reporting (ICSR), especially in key areas. Design and implement SOX internal controls as determined by the company’s SOX department, covering ICFR, ICSR, and IT reporting environments, including SAP. Properly document SOX controls for all Canadian assets in a Risk and Control Matrix (RACM). Act as Project Manager for the implementation of SOX controls in Canada as per the company’s SOX department requirements. Facilitate SOX control testing, including control self-assessments, walkthroughs, and operational effectiveness testing. Oversee the quarterly SOX attestation process for all Canadian assets. Regularly report to the group’s SOX department and participate in key meetings and calls. For all SOX reports issued by internal and external audits: Evaluate SOX report findings. Assess the severity of reported audit deficiencies and inaccuracies (control deficiency, significant deficiency, material weakness). Follow up with the help of operational process and control managers to ensure timely corrective actions for identified deficiencies. Manage control owners in Canada to ensure the timely completion of controls and the retention of audit evidence. Provide training and guidance to operational process and control managers on Sarbanes-Oxley-related matters or issues they may encounter. Liaison and management of internal and external auditors: Liaise with and manage internal and external auditors regarding audits of the internal control environment and resolve raised issues. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related fields; CPA designation (an asset); Master’s degree in internal control, risk management, accounting, or a similar governance-related field; At least five years of experience in internal control, governance, risk management, or related areas; Bilingual (French and English) – will need to interact with headquarters. French is the primary working language.
