NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is 9-5pm (Monday to Friday Days negotiable).

NHS GG&C are looking to recruit a Part time (21.25 hours) Diabetic Retinal Eye Screener.

(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

Eye screening photography Examinations of Diabetic patients eyes. The Retinal Eye Screener will be responsible for completing their appointed clinics. The service deals with a high turnover of Diabetic patients. NHS GG&C currently have over 85,000 Diabetic patients registered. The service operates from multiple sites across GG&C Health Board. A driving license is preferred.

The Retinal Eye Screener is responsible for the smooth running of their clinics. The Retinal Eye Screener works independently after a period of supervision and screening programme training with management support provided by the clinical Coordinator, service manager, lead clinician and associate specialist as required.

The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with the Service Manager, Ophthalmologist and Lead Clinician to ensure effective utilisation of specialised equipment and supplies and to ensure high quality screening services are delivered to the patient.

This is an exciting opportunity where training will be given. It would ideally suit someone with a Health or social care background.

The hours are 21.2 hrs which is equivalent of 3 working days and the days are negotiable. Consideration will also be given to job share opportunities.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
