Your Opportunity BDO Digital is looking for a contractual Data Architect/Data Modeler for MS SQL (on-prem and Azure) to join our cloud engineering team, assuming the following responsibilities: Design, develop & test enhancements and support MS SQL, Azure SQL DB and Azure MI database systems. Provide technical analyses and recommendations in terms of new solutions and supporting existing ones. Ability to translate meta data and/or requirements into a DB design and understand the impacts of the design in terms of DB performance so we can ensure the full solution is optimal. Develop DDL/DML scripts and enhance DB performance (queries, stored procedures, views, data distribution patterns, etc.). Understanding the use of Source Code Management for tracking database scripts using Git or TFVC and its tools (Bitbucket and Azure DevOps). Understanding the impact of data encryption in database solutions using Always Encrypted and/or Tokenization. Ability to contribute in Agile environments with understanding of its methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and its tools (Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps). Experience developing ETL solutions with SSIS or Data Factory is an asset. Experience working with remote teams. 24x7 pager support on a rotating basis. Able to work individually or as part of a team. Possess good technical presentation and communication skills. Willingness to be accountable/responsible for assigned tasks/projects. Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. How do we define success for your role? Your experience and education Strong experience in designing, developing, and supporting MS SQL, Azure SQL DB, and Azure Managed Instance (MI) database systems. Experience in logical database design (tables, relationship, unique keys, etc.) Erwin data modeling is a plus Knowledge of various index implementation. Proficiency in developing DDL/DML scripts, optimizing database performance (queries, stored procedures, views, data distribution patterns, etc.). Skilled in translating metadata or requirements into database designs, with a deep understanding of the performance impacts of various design choices. Ability to provide technical analysis and offer recommendations for new database solutions as well as support existing systems. Familiarity with source code management tools such as Git or TFVC, and experience with Bitbucket or Azure DevOps for tracking database scripts. Knowledge of data encryption techniques, including Always Encrypted and tokenization, and their impact on database solutions. Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) and familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.
