Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and functioning as the key design engineer for engineering projects. Formulate, initiate and develop mechanical machine design processes in all aspects. Research, design and coordinate building of new product models and improvements to existing Shred-Tech product line. Create and maintain proper engineering documentation, including BOMs, drawings, ECN's. In each case proper engineering procedures must be followed. Create 3D models and manufacturing drawings utilizing 3D (SolidWorks) CAD systems. Coordinate projects, liaise with suppliers, perform test and validation, research and development and have hands-on involvement in product and component design. Work closely with manufacturing engineering and production personnel in the building of prototype equipment to ensure conformity to engineering design, customer specifications and Design for manufacturability.RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategy:Execute projects to achieve goals and objectives as set forth by the Engineering Manager. Provide input to the development of product strategy.Implement Product Development and Engineering Standards consistent with Shred-Tech objectives. Product:Assist in developing project plans, budgets and schedules that are achievable and satisfy business requirements.Manage assigned projects and provide weekly status reports to ensure achievement of defined objectives: deliverables, timing, budgets.Provide detailed analyses of components, assemblies and systems.Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, BOM's, ECN's and product manuals. Team:Mentors peers.Responsible for supervision of assigned projects.Provide technical support to other departments as required.Promote an open learning and knowledge sharing environment. Process:Ensures adherence to New Product Development process and PD/Engineering procedures. Financial:Manage development activities within assigned budget.Document SRED activities and ensure they are filed accurately and on-time.Propose cost improvement opportunities.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Mechanical Engineer, P. Eng. Eligible, Sc in Mechanical Engineering or EquivalentExperience: 10 years of design, analysis and project management in custom equipment, heavy machinery, weldments, metal fabrication, system assembly and testing.Specific Skill Ability and Knowledge:Experience in SolidWorks, FEA, and ERP/MRP systemsExperience in mechanical design - gear, drive and hydraulic design an asset.Excellent analytical abilities with a strong materials background.Strong project management skills - planning, organizing problem solving & decision-making.Demonstrates professional communication skills in dealing with customers, suppliers and business partners.Thorough understanding of DFM/DFA and GD&TSuccessful candidates will need to pass a SolidWorks aptitude test.WHAT MAKES SHRED-TECH A GREAT PLACE TO WORK?We're ambitious and we expect our team to give their best effort to achieve the goals we set together.
