Job Summary Two general community plastic surgeons are required for Fraser Health Authority. The ideal applicants will have a passion for community plastic surgery and the breadth that it encompasses, a fellowship is not required to consider applying for these positions. The applicants should have a strong interest in general community Plastic Surgery, including trauma, hands, breast, and skin cancer management. For candidates interested in microsurgery, opportunities can be arranged with our Fraser West group. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a plastic surgery presence for Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC). ARHCC is part of Fraser Health Authority, BC’s largest and fastest growing health authority. ARHCC is a level 3 Trauma Centre and provides higher level of care for the surrounding communities including, Paediatrics, Critical care and Surgery. Plastic surgery resources including access to scheduled OR time, urgent/emergent OR time, and ambulatory care/cast clinics resources. The centre also has a very busy Breast Heath Care Clinic and provides evidence-based care for breast cancers and breast reconstruction. There are also opportunities to perform MSP cases in private facilities and possibility of other hospital centres in Fraser Valley East. ARHCC has dedicated weekly daytime trauma time that is protected. Allowing the ideal candidate to not be up every night when on call. General plastic surgery call is currently 1 in 5, and a MOCAP agreement provides an on-call stipend. Call is a regional responsibility, shared with the plastic surgeon at Langley Memorial Hospital and plans for a plastic surgeon at Ridge Meadows Hospital (once Ridge Meadows hire has occurred call will be 1 in 6). This would cover the entire Fraser Valley East, which includes ARHCC, LMH, Mission Memorial hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital and Fraser Canyon Hospital as well as RMH once a surgeon is hired there. The group affiliates with the University of British Columbia with teaching opportunities for medical students and residents, though ARHCC is not a primary residency-training site. Multiple private clinics also offer resources in the area. Abbotsford is located in one of the fastest growing regions in Canada. It is located forty minutes from Vancouver and in the natural beauty of the Fraser Valley. It is an affordable and ideal location to raise a family with a seemingly unlimited number of recreational activities, fine restaurants, and top schools. With its proximity to Vancouver, the mountains, oceans and lakes, and BC's Interior, this area is a great place to live. These must include letters from residency and or fellowship program directors. If you have been in practice for at least four years, a letter from your chief of surgery is required in lieu of your program supervisor’s letter. Anticipated start is September 1, 2024 or sooner if available.
